    About Rosalyn T.

Since earning my Music Education Degree, I have been a Public School and Private String Teacher. I am also a free-lance musician in my area. I enjoy teaching because of the 'ah- ha' moments: when after working on a new concept, the student is able to apply this concept to their music. It's a great feeling for both teacher and student! I love the relationships formed by myself and my students. I have students who still visit with me during and after their college years. I always approach teaching in a fun, friendly and patient manner. Sometimes there is more laughing than playing, but in the end, we always accomplish the goals we set out to achieve. I know my students appreciate my approach as a teacher because of their enthusiasm towards their studies. The results I am able to achieve with my students are remarkable. They enjoy playing, have a wonderful musicality about their playing and their ability to read music is superb. My students also obtain much knowledge of music theory. These combined items make for extraordinary musicians. *** Lesson Details *** A student can expect a fun and interesting lesson with lots of learning built in. I don't use one specific curriculum for every student, as I don't feel any one type of method fits the needs of every student. For a beginning student I find a method that fits them best. Further, I will use what a student has worked with in the past for continuity. Other methods I use include Applebaum, Essential Elements, Suzuki and more. After 3 to 6 months, a student can expect to be very familiar with their instrument, reading music, and playing duets and other pieces with myself and others!! A typical lesson is as follows: We tune up, and begin with a warm up exercises customized especially for them. The student and I work on what was assigned to them. We then move onto a new concept, which is fully explained and played until my student totally understands this new idea. Towards the end of our lesson, my student and I 'read' duets, or play with a fun CD, and make great music. Interwoven within the lesson are subtle details of music theory and musicality, as these factors are important to the study of any instrument. Best of all, we have fun, laugh at our mistakes (as we correct them), and enjoy being together!! Add a large dose of positive re-enforcement, and there you have it!!! *** Studio Equipment *** Home studio; violin, viola. I also have a piano in my home studio, as it is an important tool in the study of music. *** Specialties *** My Teaching Philosophy is to create a warm, friendly and fun atmosphere for maximum exciting learning environment for the highest potential of creative learning. A combination of the use of positive re-enforcement and other tools to enable the student to have the desire to improve. Use of a combination of methodologies, as experience has proven the use of only one method is not effective for every student. Along with primary study of students' instrument, incorporation of theory, rhythm, 'reading' and musicality is a must.
