Recipient of the Juilliard School’s 2009 John Erskine Prize, Seattle-born Korean-American pianist Rosa Lee received her undergraduate and masters degree in Piano Performance at the Juilliard School of Music with top honors, a second masters degree in Music & Music Education from Columbia University, Teacher’s College as a Morse Fellow, and a doctorate in Piano Performance & Literature with a Minor in Pedagogy from the Eastman School of Music. Through her multiple focused degrees in piano performance and pedagogy, Dr. Lee strives to spread her tremendous heart for teaching students of all ages and instill the love of music through fun and innovative pedagogical methods. Recognized in Seattle’s Korea Times as a pianist capable of “fearlessly communicating a distinct message through clear tone and beautiful expression,” Dr. Lee enjoys an active performing career. She has performed as soloist with the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, Northwest Mahler Orchestra, Sammamish Symphony Orchestra, University of Puget Sound Orchestra, Philharmonia Northwest, Musicians Emeritus Symphony, and Seattle Junior Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Lee was the recipient of the 2010 Shelby Bowen Full Scholarship at the Music Academy of the West and has attended numerous summer programs including the Aspen Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Zephyr Chamber Music Festival, and The Banff Centre Piano Master Class where she has worked with musicians including Robert McDonald, Jerome Lowenthal, Arie Vardi, Angela Cheng, and John Perry. Her past principal teachers include Julian Martin and Nelita True. As Assistant Professor of Music at Bethel College, she has designed courses in applied piano, class piano, aural skills, and music history, and has served the music department as faculty-student accompanist. Dr. Lee has currently relocated to Boston, Massachusetts where she resides with her husband.
