Learn piano with Rick

I am a Broadway musical director and pianist with over 15 years of professional experience who loves to share that experience through teaching, watching students grow in their expression of music. When I was young and first learning piano, I practiced a lot more when I was interested in and excited about the material I was being given. My goal is to meet you where you are and get you where you want to go, keeping you engaged every step of the way. Are you brand new and learning to read music for the first time? Are you more advanced and looking to push yourself with new material and professional feedback? Maybe you always wanted to know what those chord symbols mean or are looking to accompany yourself when you sing? Is there a song you've loved for years and wanted to be able to play? I'm happy to focus on all aspects of music, from theory and technique, to performance and professionalism. I am open to all ages and backgrounds. I suggest starting with a consultation to assess your current skill set and goals, and if we gel we can proceed forward.

A really excellent instructor! I've progressed much faster since beginning to work with Rick. He's helped me make my playing so much more musical and fun. I'm at a late beginner level and have started playing piano as an adult, and Rick was very good at helping me make progress with the material I was working on while filling in the gaps that came from me studying by myself. His technical knowledge is amazing and he can adapt his teaching style and lessons to whatever I need at the moment. Plus, he is extremely patient and encouraging.

My eight year-old daughter has had a wonderful experience with Rick. Rick was thoughtful, looking through her previous lesson books to assess her current level and any gaps. He does a great job at keeping her focused and also having fun. He makes great corrections but also gives a lot of positive feedback to keep her motivated. She is starting to make quick progress and even looks forward to practicing. Rick is an awesome teacher!
