    About Ric B.

I studied classical performance with NY Philharmonic trombonist David Finlayson and freelance bass trombonist David Taylor at the Mannes College of Music, where I earned my bachelor's degree in 2008. Since then I have been actively working as a professional trombonist, making a living playing in many styles including jazz, pop, rock, salsa, reggae, experimental, and much more. I have performed across the US, Europe, and Latin America, and have performed locally in such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, Bowery Ballroom, the Williamsburg Music Hall, and more. Since coming to New York I have maintained a small studio of private students as and worked as a substitute teacher for in- and after-school music programs around NYC. While teaching a variety of musical styles including classical and jazz performance, I strive to adapt my teaching style to each student's needs, abilities, and goals. Lessons focus on a comfortable, effortless approach to playing by incorporating aural skills and a study of musical theory into instrumental practice. Students are encouraged to build a practice routine that works with their schedule and stick to it. Whether studying etudes or improvisation, working on jazz standards or standard repertoire, I make learning the trombone a fun and positive activity. I work with beginners through advanced students of all ages but I seek students who are committed to working towards the goal of getting better at playing their instrument (in a fun, relaxed way!). If you are ready to practice, give me a call. *** Specialties *** Trombone Bass Trombone Trumpet Music Theory Ear Training
