I am a drum instructor that focuses on musicianship. I’ve been passionate about music since I was born, and have devoted my life to it since I was eight years old. This passion is one I intend to convey to students to help them figure out their own skills and interests.
As your instructor, I like to dive into what it is you like, and help you create that same happiness for yourself through the art of drumming and musicianship. I have a wide range of experience playing and writing music, all the way from jazz and rock, to improvised music, and I use the skills I've acquired from personal events and studying music in college to help interpret the world of music we live in.
From a drumming perspective, we will be focusing on technical skill and drum sound crafting as a base for our training. Meanwhile, we will also be tackling basic and advanced concepts of musical thinking, music playing, and music listening. Drummers have to be both versatile musically and physically comfortable on their instrument, so the end goal is for us to be able to apply both concepts (musicality and technique) to our drumming lives freely.
I look forward to hearing from you and continuing your musical journey!
In addition to drumming experience, my day job is at the Trading Musician, where I work in the drum shop selling and repairing drums. This helps me with my knowledge of the instrument and, more specifically, the care with which I need to provide the drums. It also has given me experience building and creating drums, and I've learned to tune them up masterfully. This knowledge will be imparted in lessons.+ Read More
For several years I have gigged professionally in and around Seattle, playing everything from jazz to rock, in bands, pit orchestras, big bands, jam sessions, and many more. I've performed at most of the large venues in Seattle and have had the privilege of playing at festivals such as Bumbershoot, Sasquatch, Festival at Sandpoint ID, Summer Meltdown, Capitol Hill Block Party, and more.+ Read More
I took lessons with Remy for a few years and honestly it was one of the best experiences. He is a really nice guy, was super patient with my pace of learning, and really knows his stuff. Probably the best part was that he knows a bunch of different styles so I could kind of pick up the specific tools I needed to play whatever kind of music I wanted. Highly recommend.+ Read More
