I'm a performing professional trumpeter specializing in Dixieland Jazz. I also play Bass Guitar, Drums, and Sing. I'm a Composer, Songwriter, and Arranger. I grew up in a musical family and I can't ever remember not being in a band. In the internet age, videos are worth a thousand words, so here is a Youtube video of a little jazzed up Dixieland version of "Jingle Bells" that I wrote and played as a duet with myself.

ENJOY, and let me help you get started playing the trumpet !

My son played the little plastic song flute in the 4th grade and decided he wanted to play the trumpet in the elementary school band when he went back to school in the fall. When I got him the trumpet, he couldn't make a sound on it. I got Rafael to give him some lessons that summer and he had him playing songs really fast. Rafael gave my son a great head start when he joined the band program in the 5th grade. Rafael has the patience and a fun personality that made my son want to take the lessons.

I had been playing in concert bands since high school, but I wanted to get into jazz and had no improv skills. I started taking lessons from Rafael and the tips and techniques he taught me from his years of hands on experience put me on the road to doing improv jazz solos. I'm currently sitting in the jazz chair of the big band I play in now, thanks to Rafael.
