I am a 24 year old music teacher available to teach lessons to all ages in voice, guitar, piano, bass, songwriting or music theory.
I've been studying music for over a decade, from Texas to the UK to New York City. I was a top high school vocalist in Texas, winning multiple titles and awards in classical voice and going on to perform in musical theatre productions and popular music groups in Austin and Liverpool, England, where I received my BA Music from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts under Sir Paul McCartney. After moving to NYC in 2016, I began to focus on teaching private lessons in the above subjects. As of earlier this year, I made the move to teaching music in a private school. My classes range from instrumental performance to advanced music theory to recording arts. I am familiar with and can tutor to DOE standards.
My background in both teaching, writing and performing gives me a diverse and varied approach to teaching music, with an emphasis on learning technique/theory and its application to "real world" music situations. My students receive a mix of traditional technique and theory, but also get to explore the music they enjoy listening to. I am of the firm belief that music comes easiest when a student loves what they're doing. Blending technique and theory with their genuine music interests has proven to be a successful approach for many of my students. One of my specialties that sets me apart from other teachers is that I mix and match instrumental/voice/theory lessons to YOUR liking. If you want to learn how to play chords on guitar but also want to work on your voice, we can make that happen.
I am proud to say that after teaching for 3 years in the city, I now have students going on to attend performing arts high schools within the city, as well as music programs in colleges nationwide.
We love Rachel in our house. She's approachable and kind - definitely makes our (often shy) daughter feel comfortable in lessons. At the same time, she really has taught Gina a lot and we're thrilled with her progress, both personally and vocally. Can't recommend enough!!Show More
Rachel is absolutely wonderful with our 17 year old. The quality of instruction as well as her knowledge is invaluable. We love her!
Rachel's teaching style is fun and flexible, but real if she needs to be. She's taught me how to control my voice and break down difficult songs into manageable sections. I would (and have) recommend her to my friends.
Rachel is a very supportive teacher. My voice, and my understanding of music has gotten better under her instruction. She has demonstrated a lot of patience with me and keeps a sense of humor, which I appreciate. I highly recommend Rachel!

- Beginner, Intermediate
My guitar students will learn basic theory and notation while focusing on hand technique and real-world application of guitar skills. You can expect to learn scales, arpeggios, chords and single line melodies as a beginner. For my more advanced students, we will work on your personal challenges and learning more advanced techniques for your own goals.

Led teams through escape games, maintained store cleanliness, worked front desk (including answering emails and phones and maintaining a sense of fun in the lobby for customers waiting for their game), set up and fixed game rooms when needed.
As a University dance coach, I led practices, exercises, choreography and was the point person for the Foxes hip hop team for the competition year.

At this overnight summer camp, I took care of cabins of campers and was part of a small music team that took care of all music needs on camp. This included, but wasn't limited to: teaching guitar lessons, playing at religious services, playing at campfires and recording the annual camp CD.
