    About Phill K.

Hey there! My name is Phill and thank you for taking the time Learn more about me and my teaching style, and thank you even more for getting into learning and experiencing first hand the life changing art of learning, making, performing, and expressing yourself through music! I am a very Experienced and seasoned professional guitarist. I have been playing for 18 years, and teaching for 12. I am also a stand up comedian in my spare time, and Work in sales. I love to use my skills from those 2 professions to better assess in my teaching by making things fun, and being able to truly listen and supply a customize specific Syllabus that best assist you on your music playing journey. I am very well versed in teaching absolute beginners, children, and even musicians who already know the ropes but went to improve their game. Are you a complete beginner? You are my speciality! The word "Practice" is the number one killer of budding musicians. Because it is usually, particularly so with classical music and instruments, practicing things they do not want, or at least think they do not want, to learn in the first place. The trick is to get student hungry to learn and want to practice, and they woll come to the teacher, or workbook, in order to do so. When we first pick up and instrument and aren't met with the instant gratification of being Hendrix, (or in this particular example I guess Stradivarius?) We ditch the whole thing entirely. Theory and tedius repetative practice of chords and scales isn't appealing to anyone until they get to a point where they see it's value. I always ask a student's favorite song or band, if they say something that is an intermediate level of playability, I teach them that song under the condition they practice and learn X. Once they see they can play the songs they enjoy, they get hungrier. All the while they get better and see the value of practicing to get there. If they say a aong or band out of their current skill level, I will learn the song, show them in person and get them excited, and then explain to them what boring chords or scales i had to learn to be able to play it, and build value in it for them. Shoot me a message, and let's talk and see what is a good fit for you!
