I am a professional concert violinist and have been happily teaching violin for 11 years. I have my Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Western Michigan University. During my student years I had the pleasure of serving as the concertmaster and assistant concert master of my university symphony orchestras, and was a paid member of the University of Oklahoma Graduate String Quartet, which served to showcase the music school in regular public concerts.
I have enjoyed a rich orchestral career, which has taken me across the country to perform with professional orchestras such as the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Battle Creek Symphony, the Amarillo Symphony, and many others. Additionally I have performed in numerous public concerts and events as a soloist and an ensemble musician. I recently settled down with my newly wedded wife in North Carolina and have been building a music studio of enthusiastic musicians of all ages and levels.
In addition to my home studio instruction, I am also a teacher at Cary School of Creative Arts, Little Arts and Smarts, and have regularly taught at Musicians Learning Center in Raleigh.
I have been teaching violin professionally for 11 years, since I was a senior in high school. Before I began my professional teaching career I already had several years of experience helping instruct my two younger siblings in violin and cello. I have mainly taught private lessons out of my home. However, I was also a violin teaching assistant at the University of Oklahoma helping instruct violin students in the music school, and I have taught private and group classes for music camps and other functions across the country. I have enjoyed working with students from a wide range of ages, levels, and personalities. I have taught beginners just starting out, highly advanced students working on difficult concertos, toddlers and grandparents, and most anything in between. It is always exciting getting to know each individual student and learning their unique personalities, sets of interests, and learning styles.
Currently, In addition to my home studio instruction, I am also a teacher at Cary School of Creative Arts, Little Arts and Smarts, and have regularly taught at Musicians Learning Center in Raleigh.
Philip was so friendly and patient, and made my 7 year old very comfortable with her first lesson. He really knew how to speak on her level and his instruction was very positive and motivating. My daughter left the lesson very excited to start practicing what he showed her, and we can't wait till the next lesson!+ Read More
Very helpful person to work with, understanding of my student's transportation difficulties and great about rescheduling. The girl likes him and is learning.
Philip is a terrific teacher. He gives lots of positive comments, and worked very well with my 7 year old. We’ve only had one lesson so far, but I would certainly recommend him.
My son came to Philip as an intermediate violin player, and I can already see progress in his playing in the two months since he started lessons. Philip really engages my son, and gets him excited about playing. He is patient, and seems to really enjoy interacting with my son. I would highly recommend Philip.+ Read More
Today was the 1st lesson for my 4 year old. For months before her birthday all she asked for was a pink voilin. So for her birthday I bought her a pink voilin and violin lessons to learn. Philip helped her take her excitement and mold the lesson to her pace. I appreciate the experience of knowing that she didn't have to move in accordance to what worked for MOST 4 year olds and was allowed to learn without taking the fun out of it. In my opinion, that is worth the 30 minutes it took to get there.+ Read More
I had been a student of Philips previously. Because of circumstances, I had to go with another instructor. It is wonderful to be back with Philip! He explains things very well and works with you to teach techniques. He is patient and imaginitive. I will be traveling 1 1/2 hours, one way, for my lesson and it is well worth it.+ Read More

Philip was so patient and effective with my daughters. They never felt the least bit frustrated, because he always made learning the violin feel so easy and natural! Even though they only were able to study with him for a short time due to distance, they both made great gains during that time! He has a real gift for putting young children at ease, and finding how to draw out their best abilities!+ Read More
Philip teaches my daughter violin every Saturday. She has made a lot of progress since she started taking lessons with him three weeks ago. We really appreciate Philip's hard work and patience. Looking forward to many more lessons in the future!
Philip is the best violin teacher I've ever met. I'm a advanced student and I was looking for someone to help me with some specific pieces and tactics. Philip is always very well prepared for every single lesson and taught me a lot of very useful tricks to help me improve in a short amount of time. He is also super patient. Best teacher ever!+ Read More
