I studied with Dr. Philip F. during my 4 years in college and grew so much as a musician! He's great at pinpointing passages to focus on but encourages the student's strengths and accomplishments as well. I studied a wide variety of repertoire, was supplemented with professional recordings, and had several performance opportunities. I would love to study with Dr. Philip F. again if he lived closer!

My 16-year-old daughter has been playing the violin for almost 10 years and has had two teachers prior to Dr. Philip. In the ten months that she has had instruction under Dr. Philip, her ability level, confidence, and technique have greatly improved. I have had the fortune of sitting in on several of her lessons, and am increasingly impressed with the amount of information and teaching that is poured into each lesson. Dr. Philip also takes the time to get to know each of his students....and he designs his curriculum and lessons around each students' individual needs. He has become more than a music teacher to my daughter....he has become a highly valued mentor in her life. In addition to the high level of professionalism and knowledge that he brings to his teaching, he also offers the student encouragement and goes above and beyond in helping the student with performance and audition preparation, anxiety, etc. He is an exceptional teacher, and I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone who is interested in furthering their music education!

Experience
Professor of Violin
Aug, 2006 - May, 2013Westmont College
From 2006-2013, I taught full time as an associate professor of violin (tenured) at Westmont College, a four year liberal arts college in Santa Barbara California. I listened to every prospective student interested in studying a stringed instrument at Westmont. I gained valuable experience in what audition committees are listening for in collegiate auditions.
