    About Timothy P.

I have been playing the bass for 7 years now. I started out in a Blues band, and made my way into playing other genres of music. I have played many different styles of music. I have played Jazz, Classical, Funk, Rock, Folk, Country, Reggae, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, R and B, Pop, And Musicals. I am now attending The University of The Arts. I am going into my Senior year. I major in Jazz performance, with a minor in Music Education. I am planning to go into the Music Education Grad program at The University. I also plan on being a middle school music teacher. *** Lesson Details *** I believe lessons can help anyone learn, and they are also great for helping anyone grow as a person. I like to start a lesson off by asking the student, or parent what they would like to learn. I would also ask what their goal is with music. I would write in a notebook a goal chart, and what it will take to reach the goal musically. Once I have established this I would start working with the student. I am big on having fun in lessons. I believe that fun is what helps a student continue in their journey to play music. I also like to challenge my students, by giving them homework, a hard piece to learn, or a new technique to learn. I believe music teaches discipline. Most if the time the student does not even know the hard work and effort they put into their playing. This hard work and effort carries on throughout life, and it leaks into other aspects of life, not just music. I am a very patient and flexible person. I work with students at their own pace. I also will work with students to help them achieve their goals, if it is learning how to sight read, sight sing, or to learn a song. I can bring in printed material, or I can recommend books for you to buy. I have an extensive collection of books to play out of. I do not just use books. I like to learn by ear, as a musician that is the tool you need to use the most, but their are other aspects that make you a strong musician. I teach beginner Piano, beginner guitar, Electric bass for all levels, Upright bass for all levels, Music Theory, and Ear-training. *** Travel Equipment *** I have an upright bass, electric bass, and amp. I have a laptop, and great computer programs. I also have books to use for sight reading. I would expect my students to have an instrument, amp, and reading materials. *** Specialties *** I can teach Jazz, Funk, Rock, Classical, Reggae, salsa, samba, latin jazz, and I can teach how to sight read proficiently, and ear-training.
