Hello! I'm an all around musician having just moved from Chicago IL. I have 15 years experience playing drums, 7 years experience playing piano, and 6 years experience playing guitar. Through my understanding of these instruments, I've developed a thorough sense for the fundamentals of music.
Along with writing, recording, and performing, I have a deep passion for teaching. I value making lessons fun, challenging, and rewarding. Learning music should not only teach you how to improve on your instrument, but it should give you valuable skills that can help you in life. I do my best to provide this instruction all while creating a positive and fun experience.
After graduating high school, I earned a degree in Music Education with a minor in Jazz Studies from Elmhurst College. During my years in college, I was able to perform in different ensembles such as Band, Choir, Vocal Jazz, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz combos, and Electric Guitar ensemble. Graduating in June 2013, I began teaching both privately and in schools.
With such a broad skill set and a love for teaching, my goal is to provide great instruction for anyone who is willing to learn.
All lessons are documented by me through a notebook kept by the student. Important concepts, musical graphs, musical exercises, and weekly goals are added to the notebook each week. Fundamentals of Rhythm, Pitch, and Tone are emphasized for all instruments.
Lessons are goal oriented, fun, and exciting. Any musical challenge is addressed from different angles in order to find a solution. I like to use "jamming" (improvising together) as a way for students to get better while having fun. I can jam with the student through playing different instruments.
All musical lessons are open to what the student wants to learn.
*Students need to provide at least 24hr notice for a lesson cancelation in order to be eligible to have the lesson made up, otherwise the lesson will not be made up.

"Big Picture" of Music
I taught private lessons, as well as lead "Rock'scool" Rock band classes in Chicago schools.
Oliver was great. Looking forward for a second lesson
Sister takes his piano lessons and loves them. Always asking mom when she will have her next lesson.
Oliver is very patient and knowledgeable! Great with my 7 year old daughter! She is looking forward to her next piano lesson.
Oliver is a really great teacher. My daughter has learned a lot in a very short amount of time.
First time with a guitar. Oliver was very kind, encouraging and patient with my 12yr old son.
He is very into the lessons
Oliver was very good with my Granddaughter.
Good first lesson. Looking forward to my next lesson.
Wasn't sure what to expect. 30 minutes isn't enough time for a first lesson. We will stick with it though and overcome my awkwardness.
Oliver is a great teacher! I really liked how patient he was and the fact that he was able to connect with my 14 year old son very well!
Only 3 lessons so far however; Oliver quickly assessed Aidan's level and abilities and began tailoring lessons for him to advance quickly. Oliver's patience, skill, and style of teaching have visibly heightened Aidan's interest and his improvement is extremely evident. I'd highly recommend.+ Read More
My first lesson went well. Oliver took his time and made sure I understood .
We were very impressed with the first lesson from Mr. Ollie.
Looking forward to the next lesson soon!
It was my daughter's first lesson and by having experience with few other teachers I could see the difference immediately. I like his approach and my daughter got back her interest in piano. She might finally have a chance to learn something. We're looking forward for future lessons.+ Read More
Oliver is excellent. Very patient and easy going. Recommend him highly.
I took guitar lessons from Oliver about 1 year ago. Everything on his profile that he describes about his teaching style is pretty much spot on. I can say that my guitar skills totally improved. Very Patient and fun teacher!
so far everything went well. Very nice young man.
My daughters confidence while singing has improved since taking lessons with Oliver. And while listening in last week I could definitely here the improvement in her voice. He has helped take her to the next level.
Ollie has been teaching my two 7 and 8 yr old daughters for about 6 months. They love the lessons and Ollie keeps them challenged, engaged and inspired to play. We have been very happy with their progress and watching their confidence grow as they love showing off the new skills and songs as they learn them. Ollie is very patient so it allows my girls a chance to feel comfortable as they move through the lessons.
(Ollie, how was that? Can I get my kid back now?!?)
Just kidding. I'm kidding. He's honestly very good.
My daughter is learning guitar with Mr. Ollie, who is always kind, gentle, patient, on time and easy to work with. Mr. Ollie is very methodical. Not only he teaches classic rock-roll songs, but he also tends to teach my kid basic music knowledge, help her develop sense of rhythm, tempo, etc. His love of music shines through his teaching, which is great to behold. Mr. Ollie also plays awesome drum.+ Read More
Mr. Ollie has been working with my son Alec (9 years old), first in after-school Rock Band at his school, and now in private drum lessons. He is wonderfully patient and encouraging. Alec has a tendency to "melt down" when he gets frustrated, and not only is Mr. Ollie teaching him good drumming techniques (full kit and snare drum solo), but he's also teaching Alec how to be calm and work through the frustration of doing something you're not ALREADY good at! Alec told me after his last lesson that he had a GREAT time and wanted to practice right away, but really he wished he could just play with Ollie all the time. From my perspective as a parent, giving my child a positive experience of learning and doing something challenging is the most important part. Mr. Ollie does a great job with this.+ Read More
I thought learning the guitar would be an overwhelming experience, but having Mr. Ollie as an instructor, playing the guitar has become an enjoyable activity! Mr. Ollie has taught me that every song can be broken down to simple easy to learn chords, and most of all, I am playing songs on the guitar that I thought I could never learn how to play!! Thanks Mr. Ollie!!+ Read More
