I am a professional pianist and a composer. I began to study piano performance and music theory at the Moscow Conservatory School at the age of 5. I have performed in Russia, US, and Europe; competed throughout my teens and young adulthood.
When I turned 20 and began teaching my first students, and realized that teaching is very rewarding, and most importantly, that I have a lot of knowledge to offer.
I am very enthusiastic about the accomplishments of all my students.
Throughout my life I was blessed to have highly professional and dedicated teachers. So I expect nothing less from my own teaching.

My 6 year old daughter started taking lessons with Nikita in July. By now she can read music, recognize some chords by ear and practice on her own. I'm lucky to have found an excellent teacher!
Nikita has been teaching my 12 year old son Cato for over 6 months now, and we are very happy with the results. He is very methodical, articulate and patient. Great attention to detail and discipline in practice. I would definitely recommend Nikita to anyone seeking a great piano teacher.+ Read More
I called the teacher multiple times and even contacted staff to contact him. I have tried multiple times to contact this teacher over a period of two weeks. Do not select this teacher he is completely unreliable.
I took piano lessons with Nikita for 6 months. I began as a complete novice unable to read music. After working with him for an hour every week, I was able to read music and practice independently. Nikita was kind and encouraging, while still always challenging me to do more than I thought I could! Nikita is a talented musician and instructor. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a piano teacher.+ Read More

I have really enjoyed my lessons with Nikita.
He has helped me find the value in timing and in devoting myself to practice, as well as helping me with my technique and posture.
Nikita is personable, responsible, and genuinely interested in my learning and progression as a student.
I have only positive things to say about my experience thus far with Nikita, and I would recommend him enthusiastically to other students.
My daughter Jennifer had Nikita S.as an accompanist for about 2 years. During that time Mr. Sokolov demonstrated remarkable skills in playing a great variety of songs from film to opera. He played composers such as Mozart, Puccini, and Bach, etc. He was always prompt and never rushed through a session.
He would often play Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and other great composers for us at the end of his work with my daughter. If you are fortunate to work with him, consider yourself lucky.
Sincerely, John Lockhart.
My son learned so much from Nikita and he is so happy to have him as a teacher. Nikita is an amazing pianist with a lot of skill. He has taught my son for the past five years and has taught him not only how to play the piano, but also music history and theory. He's an amazing teacher and his lessons are well worth the cost.+ Read More

My 10-yr-old son took piano lessons from Nikita in Los Angeles for about 1 year. We found Nikita to be an excellent teacher, particularly in technique. Nikita was very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. Highly recommended.
My daughter took lessons with Nikita for two years and had a wonderful experience. Nikita is very approachable and patient with children while still providing excellent training. He is professional, flexible with scheduling and provides wonderful recital opportunities for his students children and adults alike. My daughter performs in musicals and with a local children's choir and has found that the music theory lessons that Nikita gave her has helped her have a leg up as she is required to sometimes sight read choral pieces for auditions and performances. Nikita shares his love of music and composition with his students and I highly recommend him as an instructor.+ Read More
I took lessons for approximately a year & benefited greatly through his discipline, scales & performance experience.
Anybody studying with Nikita Sokolov will benefit from his early training in Moscow where he learned the foundations of the famous Russian piano school and from his musical education in the U.S.A. in the later years. He was, for several years while living in Los Angeles, a private student of mine, very talented and quite advanced already. Now he has several years of experience teaching students of all ages -from beginners to adults- and I recommend him highly!

I had lessons with Nikita for four years during high school. He is a great teacher who isn't afraid to push a student when he sees potential in them. He is very hard working and encouraging and he greatly improved my piano skills. He kept classes interesting and I really appreciate that he gave freedom when it came to what pieces I learned. I would definitely choose Nikita as a teacher again!+ Read More
I am a self-taught guitarist, but I always loved classical music and wanted to learn how to play piano properly. My friend recommended me Nikita in 2010. Within the first year of our lessons I learned how to read music, learned a few simple pieces, and was getting ready for my first piano recital.
Despite my shortcomings, I accomplished much more than originally expected. Nikita was very patient and encouraging throughout. I studied with him for almost 3 years, and I definitely recommend Nikita to anyone who wants to learn piano in any genre.
I took lessons with Nikita for about 9 months in 2013-14 while living in Los Angeles. With his guidance I could hear my performing ability reach new levels. I never thought I'd be able perform Bach, Beethoven or DeBussy. Yet with his teaching, oh yes!
Above all, his patience and encouragement made me feel well supported. For anyone who is looking to learn and perform classical piano, I definitely vouch for Nikita.
I am an older piano beginner and was concerned about whether I could ever play piano music at my age. Nikita Sokolov, my teacher for approximately 1-1/2 years, guided me through some of the more difficult aspects that the beginner faces when learning the piano -- proper timing; understanding key signatures; using the pedal effectively; playing both hands together when the notes didn't coincide. Nikita is a patient instructor who stressed learning the fundamentals that are critical to playing the piano well and enjoying it! I would strongly recommend Nikita as a piano instructor -- both for the beginner, young and old, as well as those who have been playing for a few years and want to refine and perfect piano fundamentals.+ Read More
