I'm a teacher based in Bloomington, Indiana where I'm earning my master's degree in vocal performance. I've been singing for over ten years and have worked with various vocal styles, including opera, musical theater, jazz, choral, crossover, and more! Regardless of which style you want to focus on, vocal technique should be learned in order to keep your voice healthy and to make singing as easy and fun as possible! If you want to explore your instrument and learn how to tap into your inner talent, I am here for you. Teaching others how to find their voice is one of my greatest passions, and it brings me so much joy to work with students and watch them grow. If you want to know more, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Nick is a warm, encouraging, kind, and gifted teacher. I've observed his teaching work over the years and consider him a good friend and incredible musical colleague. Anyone who studies under him will absolutely improve, and also have a safe place and person to explore their voice with, no matter their goals or experience! I couldn't recommend Nick more as a musical tutor.

Nick is an awesome teacher! He meets his students where they’re and creates an environment where students can do their best work. And he’s an intelligent, caring, and kind person who always works his hardest to help his students succeed.

I started taking lessons from Nick in February 2020. At the time, I was extremely self conscious about my own voice and lacked everything in regards to technique. Flash forward not even one year later, and the strides I have made are startling. My weakness has become one of my strengths, and it's all thanks to the way Nick teaches. He is highly intelligent, straightforward with his teaching, and just an all around great person. Whether you sing competitively or in the shower, I could not suggest Nick more.

    Experience

    Choral Scholar

    Jan, 2021 - Present

    First Christian Church

As a choral section leader, my job is to show up to rehearsals and services with my music learned and to be prepared to lead the choir in music making. It is my duty to set a good example for the other members of the section, and to provide a strong vocal foundation for the choral sound.

    Student

    Aug, 2020 - Present

    Indiana University

In training for my master's degree in vocal performance, I have the opportunity to take part in many choral and operatic performances. At IU, I have learned skills and taken classes that have both broadened my knowledge as a singer and made me into a better teacher.

    Auxiliary Chorus Member

    May, 2019 - Nov, 2019

    Portland Opera

I was asked to sing in both the Big Night chorus concert in May, and later to sing in the chorus in Puccini's Madama Butterfly. This was my first opportunity to sing in an opera chorus outside of a university, and it was an absolutely enriching experience. I was asked to become a contract member of the chorus, but unfortunately declined due to my move to Indiana for graduate school.

    Chorus Member

    Dec, 2018 - Dec, 2019

    Portland Baroque Orchestra

Two years in a row I was asked to sing in the Portland Baroque Orchestra's and Cappella Romana's collaborative production of Handel's Messiah. Being one of the most exhilarating and famous oratorios to have ever been written, I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity not once, but twice to sing in this production. In the 2018, the director was Desmond Earley, and it 2019 it was PBO's director Monica Huggett.

    Staff Singer

    Sep, 2018 - Jul, 2020

    Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland, OR

Singing under the tutelage of choral director and famed organist Bruce Neswick, I acquired a variety of skills as both a soloist and an ensemble singer. Having the high standards of this cathedral position imposed upon me, I was forced to grow and mature in many ways, both musical and personal. During my time at Trinity, we performed multiple large-scale works including Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Handel's Messiah.

    Choral Scholar

    Jan, 2016 - May, 2018

St. John's Episcopal Church, Gig Harbor, WA

I sang for two and a half years at this wonderful church in Gig Harbor, WA under the direction of both Joseph Pettit and Christopher Hampson. I was in charge of leading the tenor section and singing any solos when needed. During my time at St. John's, I was tasked with learning an eclectic variety of repertoire, and this experience was absolutely foundation for my development as a musician.
