Master of Music in Music Composition

Master music theory with an award-winning composer

Professional music composer with 12 years of experience ready to teach students ages 13+ in music theory. Students will each receive their own lesson plans based upon their wants and needs. Each student should have a learning plan as unique as they are. Music theory topics I can instruct on include the elements of music, diatonic harmony and tonicization, chromatic harmony and form, and twentieth century techniques. Beginning students can expect to learn about the elements of music, intermediate students can expect to learn about diatonic harmony, and so on. Each lesson will include the concept in the context of a musical example(s) so that the concept is not only theoretical, but also, put into musical context.

    • I strive to help others see the beauty in themselves and the world around them through music. I want to help others realize that they can understand music: spreading that beauty to others, becoming a light in the darkness to those who need it most. • I am a professional music composer and have studied music theory and composition for 12 years. I teach students 13+. • As an award-winning composer, I collaborate with clients to create music for stage and screen. Some of my accomplishments include winning the Toledo Symphony Orchestra composition competition, closing 7 live-streaming music broadcast contracts, composing music for a film screened live in a theater, and orchestrating 40+ performances of my music in venues across 4 states.

I have known Nick for several years and I can say with confidence that he is incredibly competent, intelligent, and has a great personality for teaching. He was a great support as a peer taking music theory and as someone that has played some of this compositions, I can say that he has incredible skill and knowledge in creating beautiful, engaging work.

Nick and I went to grad school together and he was my go to person for checking scores and reviewing work. He also helped me pass the theory entrance exams! Wonderful person, fantastic teacher, would absolutely recommend.

I’ve known Nick for an extremely long time, and while I have not taken lessons from him through this platform, I can absolutely testify to his abilities as a composer, and a teacher! I was utterly fortunate for Nick to have written several compositions for me both for personal use as well as for teaching/sight reading material when I was entering music school. As a teacher he is patient and flexible, wanting only the best for his students. He is exceedingly easy to work with and an absolute pleasure! Without his help, I truly am unsure I would have made it into music school all those years ago. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with him!
