I started recording my own music in high school with nothing but one microphone and a digital 8 track. I used to record band practices or song ideas down but eventually became just as interested in making the recording itself sound as good as the music we were writing. We would experiment with many microphone positions and after a few years of studying guitar and piano in college I switched my major from music to audio production at Columbia College Chicago. I can teach anybody anything they want to know about music recording engineering or production. I can teach brand new beginners how to use DAWs (Digital Audio Workstation) such as Ableton or Pro Tools and utilize classic or more experimental microphone techniques on drums, guitar, bass, vocals, strings, horns, or for more audio focused people techniques on recording found sound objects for film, soundscaping or sampling for electronic music as well as techniques on manipulating the sound in DAWs. I can also teach beginner to intermediate techniques on mixing a recording such as  placement, levels, EQ, compression, mastering, bouncing, recording to tape, and also can help with getting students started on building their own home studios.

I am a musician originally from Cleveland, OH and moved here to Chicago about five years ago. I've been a lifelong musician playing piano since I was six years old and playing guitar since I was 14. I started teaching myself how to write songs when I was 15 and have been writing ever since. I studied music for three years at Columbia College Chicago and then transferred to the Audio Arts and Acoustics program and graduated with a degree in Audio Production. I have taught friends and children how to play instruments as well as use the application Ableton to create electronic music independently and love doing so. I hope to introduce you to the wonderful world of music in a fun and engaging environment that will have you craving to learn more.

Nathan is a very affable and adroit banjo teacher. He has an extremely wide knowledge of all things musical.
