I have been giving voice lessons for the last 8 years. I have taught from elementary school students to adults, new/fresh beginners to intermediate. I am a great encourager and am eager to see you grow in your talents and abilities. I have been singing in church choirs and receiving private voice lessons since I was 6 yrs. old. With a BA in Music, I graduated from William Jessup University, emphasis in voice. From there I went on to teach at a Music Academy and then a music focused college known as "Instituto Canzion". I have received additional instruction from classes and private lessons at Musician's Institute located in Hollywood, CA and continue to gain teaching techniques from their professors. One of my main goals as a teacher is to make sure you are constantly growing and being challenged. As a teacher I hope to provide specifically for each students need. I have experience with instructing for pop, rock, indie, country, musical theater, and contemporary christian genres. I have worked with choir pieces as well as solos and duets, and have spent some time in recording studios, Coaching vocalists as well as doing some recording of my own. My desire is that every student would feel comfortable sing/performing
in front of an audience while having fun, because that's what it's
about, after all, that feeling of accomplishment after you've worked so
hard. So let me help you to feel confident while performing and have a great time!

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is somewhat laid back. I always tell my students, "You will get out of these lessons only as much as you are willing to put in." I can be strict if that helps a student, but I try to work with each individual at a pace that works best for them. I do challenge my students to reach and push themselves to what I know they are capable of. One of the first things I will do in a lesson is to set a personal goal with the student. This helps to have something to work towards. In lessons I will focus on areas like correct breathing, posture, relaxing tension, vowels, pitch, pronunciation, performance, and others. These are some of the areas that should definitely show noticeable improvement after 3-6 months. Other things like vocal physiology and ear training will be implemented as well as some sight reading. In the end it's really all about what you want to learn. I don't claim to know it all, but I am a life long learner and am continuing to better myself through further education.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard, Mirror, Recorder, Music stand. The student needs to provide their own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a keyboard and a recorder, but I need to be informed as to whether I need these items or not. The student needs to provide his or her own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I mainly teach Pop, Country-pop, pop-rock, Musical theater, Christian and contemporary genres.

Excellent choice

I have greatly enjoyed Melanie's investment with my child. She has loved taking lessons as well as learning the art of singing and songwriting. She has helped my daughter to grow greatly and I am so happy that we have found her! I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Lesson Tailored to my Goals

Melanie did a phenomenal job of giving me tailored instruction to where I wanted to go with my voice. The tools she gave me in our lessons have helped me produce the strength I'm looking for in my unique sound. And I love her bright and joyful attitude as she teaches. Such a great experience!

Melanie is Awesome!

I have not been singing in awhile, but just a few lessons with Melanie and I can't wait to sing. Since working with Melanie, my voice has developed a better tone and strength. I feel much more confident in my ability. Melanie focuses on exactly what my voice needs to develop into a much more professional sound. I look forward to my next lesson and know something tremendous will come out of it.

Melanie is an awesome teacher!

I had the pleasure of learning from Melanie when she directed and taught a small performance group. When the group had to learn many difficult parts and songs, Melanie always was extremely patient with us and really took her time to explain the "why" behind her direction. She is an excellent, technically strong singer and an excellent communicator. She makes sure you understand what you are doing with your voice which is so important! She definitely brought out the best in the performance group!

Amazing Vocal Instructor

I had been attempting to learn to "sing" by myself for years, but to no avail. I decided to give traditional lessons a try, and found this site. After looking in my area and reading other's reviews, I figured I'd take the plunge with Melanie.

Wow. Melanie was great. She was welcoming and she made me feel at home, even though singing in front of someone was a fear of mine. We started out with simple warm ups and practices, which actually taught me more than I had ever known already, and moved on to songs!

I didn't get to spend much time with Melanie, because I moved, but the two months we worked together greatly helped my abilities. I don't feel ashamed of my voice.

She taught me how to not only sing, but listen.

If you haven't already selected her as your instructor, what are ya waiting for?

Melanie is the best vocal teacher I've ever met! She's really helpful, but makes me feel super comfortable at the same time. I never feel super awkward while performing for her. I've learned so much in a few months. Absolutely amazing teacher!

Music Performance
Melanie A. is an extraordinary teacher!

Of the many music teachers out there, I would have to say that Melanie is one with a unique ability to get students from any background to really understand what it is they need to and learn. To begin, Melanie's upbeat and bright, but professional personality is one that easily clicks with all types of students, making it easy to learn. She is so patient and kind, but just strict enough to get us to do what we need to do. I have seen her sing several times and her great vocal talents and stage performances allow her to give honest, professional, and needed pointers that help students improve (but never in a harsh way). I personally observed this from our band sessions where she is able to teach and give performance advice to a group of students that has greatly improved our ability to be able to be on stage. As a guitar player, she has given me pointers that slightly pushes me out of my comfort zone, but as bettered my stage performance.Just as she capable of teaching groups, she is an excellent one-on-one teacher. It is never hard to ask her for extra help or assistance as her genuine love for singing and music is what fuels to want others to have the same love for it as well. She is always encouraging and constantly reminds you of your abilities to make sure you are never feeling discouraged. Having her as a mentor will never fail to improve your skills in music (whether it be singing or performing on stage) and build your confidence.
