Great teacher and loads of fun!

I've been taking lessons from Steve for almost 8 years (that in itself should say much about his instruction!). He is able to teach whatever category of music to any person at any level be it acoustic, electric, or theory. I would highly recommend Steve for any age group and for the novice or experienced player wanting to improve. After the many years learning from Steve I wouldn't think of taking lessons from anyone else!

About Julie
I am passionate about Music and Music Education. It's rewarding for me to watch my students develop in their musical skill and enjoy making music more and more. My students range from the very young (5 years old) to school age children, to teens, and adults. My students benefit from my expertise in teaching Vocal and Piano music, my knowledge of Music Theory, and my encouraging teaching style. I have been involved in making music since I was a young child, and I have been teaching private students since I was a Music major at the University of Florida in 1982 when a fellow college student asked me to teach her voice lessons. I have a Music Education degree from the University of Florida; my major instrument was Voice, my minor was Piano. I taught as a public school music educator in Florida, California, and Tennessee between the years
of 1983 to 1997. I taught private students after school in my classroom while I was a public school teacher, and from my home since 1997. My post-graduate continuing professional education includes Tennessee Arts Academy at Belmont University, Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1 (vocal teaching techniques, do-re-mi, ear training), Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification, Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Piano Lab certification. My professionalism and expertise are at your service. I will work together with you to insure an enjoyable and informative learning experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.

For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.

In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.

For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.

My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential.
After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide two recital opportunities a year: in December, and in May. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
PIANO lessons in Living Room: piano near front entryway, couch, loveseat, over-sized chair, dining room table, open space, end table with chair, parents may sit in on lesson.

SINGING lessons in Recording Studio: keyboard, recording equipment, desk, 2 chairs, music stand, microphone, private room. Parents may wait in adjacent rec room or sit in on lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson books, the students should provide their instrument.

I do have a mobile keyboard to bring for SINGING lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1

Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification

Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Lab certified instructor

About Leandria
Born in Huntsville Al, Leandria L. received her Bachelors from
Tennessee State University with a Commercial Music Performance Degree, since then, she has traveled to Europe to play in work shops and concerts, she's had the opportunity to played for gospel artists Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, and Tye Tribbett, and has just finished up her first year of teaching music in a classroom. Her most recent teaching experience was Kids On Stage Academy, where in one week her students learned how to read music and how to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Her love for the arts keeps her love for teaching alive.

*** Lesson Details ***
Leandria is a laid back teacher but loves to see her students’ progress with their music. She uses the Suzuki method, but believes it’s very important to for her students to learn the basics of the instrument, how
to read music and at least 2 songs within the first 3-6 months. In a typical lesson they would start with a scale---saying the note, saying the finger number, and then saying both--- then they would work on which ever piece is their focus at that time, and then they would bow to each other dismissing the lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Their own instruments and music stands.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki, however I think it is extremely important that the student learns how to read. I use my own method to ensure this.

Leandria is amazing! Not only is she an amazing teacher but she is a wonderful person as well. She is so personable and truly felt like a friend to me. I was amazed at how fast I was learning and was having so much fun while doing it. She taught me the basics and foundations and she also taught me to play some fun songs like beyonce's Halo song as well! We would laugh and say we were channeling our inner beyonce. She adapts her teaching style to your learning style and really makes the most of each lesson. Unfortunately my life recently got a little chaotic so I had to put my lessons on hold for a while but when I continue back up I will definitely be going back to her. You can't find a better teacher than Leandria! I would highly recommend her to all people and age groups!

We have seen fantastic progress in such a short time. Brittany's knowledge, patience, enthusiasm, and own personal talent shine through. My daughter looks forward to each and every lesson. Hi, everyone!

I'm so excited to be in Music City! I just moved to Nashville from New York City where I worked with Broadway performers and kids auditioning for some of the most competitive performance schools in the country. I'm confident I can help you achieve your music goals, whether they be learning to produce a powerful, resonate, healthy sound with your voice, becoming proficient in piano from everything from Bach to Billy Joel, or writing clear, catchy songs that will have a big impact on an audience.

Please check out my bio below and feel free to ask me any questions about lessons with the "Ask a Question" button.

Hope to be working with you very soon!

Hunter is hands down one of the best teachers I've had the chance to perform and work with over my 20+ years in the drumcorps/marching band realm. The knowledge he possesses is impressive in itself but the way he imparts stands out above all. He has a very special ability to read a situation as well as a student and cater the lesson to ensure the student will get the most of the time allowed. If you want to learn, excel, and achieve a higher understanding of your art then Hunter is the one you want teaching you!

I had the privilege of performing under the direction of Hunter on several occasions. His ensemble work is always rigorous, challenging, exacting, and enough fun to create a good team spirit. He is a great teacher in a one on one setting, and his ability to both diagnose errors and prescribe the right fix is uncanny. He's the perfect combination of serious, knowledgeable, professional, and fun. If I still lived in Nashville, I would be thrilled to study with Hunter.

I have worked and performed with Hunter over the past 10 years, and I can say that he is hands-down one of the absolute best in his field! His extensive knowledge of percussion, music theory, and music pedagogy only supplement his ability to take any student at any level and make them discover a level of potential and success higher than already imagined. He has a tremendous ability to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of any student he teaches, thus offering very thorough instruction.

In short, Mr. Stricklin is a master in music performance, education, composition, and arranging! I highly recommend Hunter Stricklin. He will take your knowledge and abilities to the next level and beyond!
