Hello, my name is Mike and I'd like to tell you about my diverse background in music. I began playing guitar at the age of 12 and pursued it through my collegiate career at the University of Maine. While studying Jazz theory and arranging at the University of Maine I developed an interest in music composition and spent much of my time writing music and developing a personal compositional style. To aid in my understanding of how to write for other instruments I learned to be a multi-instrumentalist, studying the drums and bass guitar. Later in my twenties, I studied audio engineering at the Audio Recording Technology Institute in Orlando, FL and presently work as a freelance audio engineer here in CT. In addition to my career as an audio engineer I am also a gigging musician who plays drums and guitar in a variety of local bands.
My experience as a musician, songwriter, and audio engineer gives me a unique understanding of music and I am devoted to helping others find their musical voice.
*** Lesson Details ***
My approach is laid back but effective. I prefer to keep the lesson as comfortable as possible because I remember what it was like to be a student and having intimidated or stressed-out students is not a recipe for musical success! A comfortable environment is one in which creativity and intellect can truly flourish.
I do not have my own teaching agenda as I think it is unwise to take a "one-size-fits-all" approach in teaching an instrument. I do, however, utilize a number of books in my lessons and will use the ones that are relevant to your personal goals.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring my guitar, notebook/staff paper to write notes for the student, a tuner, and reference material (scale/chord books).
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, and Folk music.
