I am a private music instructor with a background in chamber ensemble. I've been playing the viola for over a decade now, and it's brought me many joys. My primary point of interest as a teacher is musicality. That is, I've found over the years that most students see the kind of improvement they want when they're learning technique through artistic sensitivity, instead of the other way around. Learning to marry technique and artistry is essential to strong musicianship, and you always learn best when you're working on something you enjoy! In many cases, that can mean learning to enjoy music you otherwise wouldn't through artistic technique. Personally, I love Romantic and 20th Century era classical music. I am also a fan of Jazz, Blues, Film Composition, and Musical Theater. I'm particularly fond of composers like Britten, Dvorak, and Schoenberg. My passion is teaching, and helping people meet their learning goals. I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a wonderful musician!

    Private Music Teacher

    Jan, 2013 - Present

    Micah's Music Lessons

My orchestra conductor from Middle School asked me to come back and work with her viola section as they prepared for their spring concert. Soon after, my high school conductor had me working with freshmen and sophomores that couldn't afford private lessons. I sat in on music classes with these students and helped them along as they worked through sections with the full orchestra. I also sat in with a couple of chamber groups to help prepare them for competition. I have continued this work, and now work with students privately and in groups, depending on the need.
