Composition with Meredith G.

I’m a classical/art music composer with an affinity for the avant garde. Many of my pieces utilize graphics or other non musical sources as a framework, treated with different degrees of intuition and literal translation, to create music with an unexpected shape and content. I very rarely compose a piece in the same method multiple times. I have a fondness of gesture, non functional harmony, extended techniques, odd timbres, and low sounds. I graduated with my PhD from SUNY Buffalo in 2021, and previously studied at the Hartt School (MM) and Butler University (BM). My goal as a teacher is to foster your creativity and independence as a composer. We'll learn theory, notation, musical literature, and orchestration, guided by your interests and strengths, and start making music that is truly your own!
