Learn singing with a friendly teacher with a Master's in Vocal Music Ed and a decade of experience!

I truly believe that anyone can learn to sing! All voice lessons start with an emphasis on healthy singing that is appropriate for the singer’s age. Students will learn correct posture, breathing, acting, and vocal placement so that whether the goal is to sing in a musical, on stage at church, improve as a singer-songwriter, or be ready for a college audition, you will be prepared for a lifetime of healthy singing. Lessons will be catered to the specific goals of each student and there will be opportunities to perform in studio recitals. I have been teaching private music lessons for over a decade: voice, piano, and guitar from toddlers to adults. My students have gone on to study music in college, be cast in lead roles in musicals, lead worship at churches, and even be chosen to perform on Broadway in Music Theatre International productions. They have been chosen for Mid State Honors Choirs, All-State Choirs, and have performed all over the country. I received a Bachelor’s of Music from Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music and a Master’s of Education in Vocal Music Education from Vanderbilt University's Peabody school of education. I am also a licensed K-12 music teacher and have directed choirs and musicals such as Disney’s The Lion King, Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and more.

Hello! My name is Melissa, and above all, I want my students to love music. Whether you have been singing for years, or you are just trying it out, I will help customize your lessons so that you can learn exactly what it is you are interested in. My students will learn proper breathing, posture, vocal placement but also acting, performing, and music theory. Students wishing to sing classical music will learn to sing in Latin, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, and more! If you are wanting to learn pop, jazz, or compose your own music, we will focus on contemporary music. I come from a unique background in that while I got my start in classical music and opera, I spent several years as a musical theatre director, directing shows such as Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and more. If auditioning for school plays or getting into college music programs is something you are interested in, I will help to know exactly what audition panels are looking for and prepare a strong performance. If you are an adult who is wanting to improve your singing, then we will create a plan to accomplish all of your singing goals! I have a decade of experience teaching voice, piano, and guitar, and I am a licensed k-12 music teacher who has taught choir and musical theater in the school system. While many teachers do not still perform, I sing weekly at church where my husband is the worship leader. Above all, I am looking forward to helping you become the best musician you can be.
