About Max A.
I live, gig, tour, and teach full time as a drummer in NYC. I have over 13 years of experience playing pop, rock, gospel, funk, jazz, and musical theater. I've taught children as young as 4 years old, and adults over the age of 45, from total beginners to experienced players.
What I've learned, and experienced as a student myself, is that every student's needs are unique. There is no one routine, no one pedagogy, that will work 100% for all students. One on one instruction works best when the course work matches the individual needs and goals of the student. Is your aim to make a career out of this instrument, or something fun to do in your free time? Do you want to learn everything there is about straight ahead jazz, or how to play your favorite pop tunes? All the above perhaps?
My students can expect bespoke lesson plans that, if followed, will *guarantee musical development* in whichever direction they choose to take. I really enjoy working one on one because it allows me to get creative with my teaching process. The best parts for me are the 'aha' moments when something a students has struggled with finally clicks and they are able to expand their awareness and open up new possibilities in their playing.
Studying with a great teacher has the potential not only to enrich your playing, but also your love of learning. My best teachers always pushed me the hardest and managed never to make lessons boring or tedious. I believe in challenging myself and my students, but also that challenges should be exciting and personal, not stale and templated.
I look forward to working with you soon!

Max is an amazing teacher. He is an outstanding, patient,
and compassionate teacher. His lessons were so well tailored to my needs. Each class addressed specific needs and goals of mine. Max is a great drummer and wonderful teacher, highly recommend.

I was a bit nervous about taking lessons as I had not played drums in front of anyone before. My first lesson was surprisingly a very comfortable expereience and something that I would definitely recommend if you are on the fence. I have been playing for about a year and felt like I wasn't progressing with YouTube tutorials anymore. Max has really been helping to take me to a new skill level!

Max brings a ton of experience in playing; he has been a very effective instructor. I am very PLEASED and highly recommend him.

My daughter got a drum set for her birthday last year. When I was looking for a drum teacher for her, Max's name was passed along to me, and so far he has been a great instructor. Max is always very patient with my daughter and cares a lot about her progression. My daughter really enjoys her drum lessons.

Max is a wonderful teacher because he is both patient and persevering. He is sensitive to the beginner’s lack of experience but does not overly simplify the steps of learning. He has a two fold approach to teaching technique and feeling rhythm so one develops both at the same time. Perfect!

I really enjoyed my lessons with Max. He is very patient, great for beginners, but has the knowledge and experience to teach any level. As a singer, he improved my musicianship, which I can see clearly translated into my own original music. Couldn't recommend him more!

My son (just turned 5) recently started playing drums. Max has done an awesome job teaching him remotely via FaceTime. Admittedly, my son gets distracted during some of their sessions, but Max is great at working with him on simple patterns and techniques to help him learn the basics. Max us even gives us things to work on with our son by ourselves to make sure he keeps learning. Overall, I've been surprised how well remote lessons worked, and as long as my son is having fun we'll keep doing it!

Mr. Max is a great teacher! He was super patient and knowledgeable. I was a total beginner at drums, but he made things really easy to understand and helped me start playing and reading right away. Would totally recommend taking lessons with Mr. Max!
