I started playing trumpet in grade school and was in the marching band the first year of high school. I then switched to playing upright bass in the orchestra. This led to me being a part of the jazz band and playing instrumentals for school musicals. Upon graduation time, I received the gold medal for music performance in strings. I was also an AP music theory student. After, I pursued a bachelor's degree in music and took education courses. I have tutored music theory and given instrument lessons, but they were always self employed or from the university.
I wish to help others make music an enjoying part of their lives, as it is in mine.
*** Lesson Details ***
For lessons, I like to get a feel of the student's current abilities and then start from there. I'm progressive in my methods and use a scaffolding technique. Going out of your comfort zone helps learning and development.

Great teacher...my kids 5 & 9 are really enjoyed piano and violin lessons with Matt.
Matthew is very patient, an excellent teacher, goes with students level of learning. Highly recommend him.
Great teacher. Goes at your pace and is very patient even if he has to explain things multiple times. Makes sure you understand what you're doing and not just blindly following. Praises you when you do well and encourages you when you struggle. Looking forward to learning more from him.+ Read More
Matthew was very kind and patient with my daughter. I was glad I chose him to teach my daughter piano.
Great first lesson!
Very knowledgeable. Takes his time to explain concepts and the theory. Makes it fun, but challenges you at the same time.
Matt is a very talented, smart musician. I am 44 years old and learning how to play bass guitar has been on my bucket list for sometime. He has made it fun and easy for this middle-aged wanna-be! His lessons and exercises are great. I find myself looking forward to coming home from work and practicing. He is also excellent at music theory. I highly recommend Matt to anyone.+ Read More

Great lesson, my son really enjoyed getting started again with bass. Thank you.
Matthew is very pleasant, professional and Peyton enjoys his time.
Peyton was very excited after meeting Matthew and enjoyed his first lesson.
patient and knowledgable. My son has been gaining confidence
Matthew is so nice, so patient. Does not demand. He is teaching both of my daughters. We really like how calm he is and patient.
I have been having a great experience with Matt as a teacher. I have been taking lessons with him online for a little while now, and have been very much enjoying it. I have played the piano for a number of year, and when I was younger was not much of a theory student. I can say that I have learned a -ton- of theory already with Matt, which I really enjoy!+ Read More
Matthew has been teaching my 11 year old son with guitar. Matthew is very patient and proficient with teaching. He is very responsible and hardworking. My son looks forward to their weekly lessons.
Matt came to my house to teach my daughter piano. He's been a great teacher and my daughter even practices on her own, without me having to remind her. He seems calm, cool, and collected and doesn't get impatient.
