Overview

Hello! My name is Matthew and I am offering piano and voice lessons in your home or my studio. All lessons focused on student's goals and interests. Learn to sight read, play the blues, sing a show tune! I have been working professionally in the performing arts and have 20 years of experience working with all ages, from children to adults, and all levels, from beginners to professionals. I am always thrilled to help a young person uncover their musical ability, guide the experienced musician to further their proficiency, or provide the hobbyist with a fun, creative environment to explore the music they've always loved.

Experience

Piano Instructor

Jun 1994 - Present
Private Piano Lessons

Offering private piano lessons with a strong focus on sight reading and the fundamentals of musical theory through analysis and performance of the early classical repertoire, while providing tools for improvisation in various musical forms, especially 12 bar blues and pop. Providing guidance for the implementation of proven techniques—parental involvement, establishment of a practice routine, and praise-based acknowledgment of achievements—to ensure progress of the young student. Teaching older students self-motivation techniques and practice-management skills to heighten the efficacy of time spent at the instrument, as well as regularly communicating with older students about the musical world at large—current top 40 songs, musical traditions of other cultures, etc—to increase the scope of their musical journey. Detailed notes taken during every lesson, reviewing material covered and clearly outlining practice objectives for coming week. Quarterly assessment of student’s goals and current musical interests, to assure continued progress and enjoyment.

We just finished the first lesson with Matthew for my 8 year old son. Matthew was very friendly but very professional. My son was a little bit nervous at first but when Matthew started to play piano with my son I can tell that my son was enjoying the lesson. I know that we found the right teacher and we are so excited to have his lessons for many more times to come!

My daughter Makaila loved her first lesson. She wants to even extend it to 45mins. Matthew was awesome. Had my daughter playing and reading music in 20 mins. Extremely pleasant and very upbeat.

25 stars!
Since the first lesson you could hear something happening. I've never heard the progress like the first seating. Matthew knows how to teach! He teaches to warm up your voice. My daughter is getting more familiar with keys and her notes. My daughter is excited and looks forward to her next lesson. He is definitely a keeper!

My child has been taking piano lessons with Matthew for over five years (pre-teen to teen). I myself took a few lessons with Matthew, until my schedule no longer allowed for the continuation of those lessons. He is extremely talented and patient. Most importantly, he is capable of teaching people to play a wide variety of piano music. Not everyone can teach what they know. I highly recommend Matthew as an instructor for you or your family.

I have known Matthew for over three years. I took my son to him for Singing and acting lessons. Matthew is amazing. He is a very talented, creative, as well as an inspirational teacher. He is so kind and considerate to all that he teaches. Matthew is a drama student of the Performing Arts and is beyond incredible in his acting roles. His singing is stunning. When it comes to lessons, Matthew is the only person that I would bring my son too.
