Matt Hull is a trumpet player and composer from Boston, MA, currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. An eclectic performer and listener, Hull is inspired by the recording process and uses elements of both pre-recorded material and looped audio in his music. He has composed for a range of ensembles, such as his new group RADIO BRASS, duo project GlovePilot with drummer Joe Hartigan, a chord-less jazz quartet called Factory Quartet and his solo work. Recently, Hull released an album titled “In the Pulses” of solo trumpet as well as tracks featuring bassist Max Ridley and drummer Dor Herskovits. In 2018, Tower to the Sea Records released a cassette of Hull’s solo music, "New Recording 49", an album that he self-recorded with the iPhone Voice Memos App. A recipient of the prestigious full-tuition City Music Scholarship, Hull attended Berklee College of Music and graduated with a dual degree in Jazz Composition and Professional Music in 2014. While at Berklee, he studied under Ayn Inserto, Greg Hopkins, and Tiger Okoshi, and was awarded the Thad Jones Achievement Award for Jazz Composition in 2014. Hull is a founding member of the indie-rock/jazz outfit Really From, who released their sophomore album "Verse" in 2017 with Topshelf Records and are anticipating a new release in 2021. Hull has also recorded and toured with The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die's on their third full-length album "Always Foreign" and regularly plays with the Skatune Network live band & Max Ridley’s Basement Show Philharmonic.
