    About Marissa L.

I have been studying the clarinet for over 18 years, and I hold a Master in Clarinet Performance degree from The Dana School of Music in Youngstown, OH. Prior to graduate school, I earned my Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA. I currently perform with the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, the Youngstown Symphony, and Opera Western Reserve. Aside from orchestral work, I perform musicals, weddings, dinner parties, and other entertainment events. Some highlights of my recent performing career have been performing with the pop/rock band Hanson in their 2018 String Theory Tour, and with world-renowned opera singer, Sarah Brightman in her 2019 Hymn Tour. I also had the privilege of being principal clarinetist in the recording orchestra for the 2019 Super Bowl Pregame. Along with performing, I teach clarinet, saxophone, and piano lessons in Pittsburgh, PA to all ages and experience levels. I strive to share my passion for music and the clarinet with anyone who is interested and willing to learn. I have spoken on alumni professional networking panels and taught masterclasses at Westminster College for college music majors and high school aspiring young artists. Music can change lives, and I welcome all aspiring clarinetists and musicians to my studio!

I teach the fifth-grade clarinet students through the Jumpstart Band Program each year for a week. During this week, the students learn about the clarinet, how to care for their instrument, proper embouchure, posture, air, and finger position. By the end of the week, they are able to play their first five notes on the clarinet.
