My name is Marissa and I just finished my Master's degree at the University of Memphis in classical voice. I have been studying piano for 14 years and voice for 8. I began my education at the Denver School of the Arts studying under Brian Stinar and Anne Van Etten, where I had the opportunity to play in prestigious halls such as Jordan Hall at New England Conservatory and John Paine Hall at Harvard University. For my undergraduate, I attended the Chicago College of the Performing Arts and I had the opportunity to work with Thomas Studebaker and Cynthia Clarey studying piano under Dr. Rachel Park. I had the great opportunity to work with great artists such as Nicole Cabell and Isabelle Leonard and worked with local theaters such as the Greenhouse Theater. As a pianist, I had the opportunity to work with composers such as Doug Green, Nicholas Gutierrez, Justus Richardson, and Andrew Meixner to perform new works. Most recently I've had the privilege to make my European debut in Don Giovanni in Stara Zagora Bulgaria, work with Opera Memphis singing in their 2018-2019 season, as well as serving as a soloist for the Memphis Youth Symphony, and debuting in the opening season of Memphis Light Opera. As a teacher, I believe in a strong foundation in hard work and fun. Music should be enjoyable and I enjoy working with students both young and old. I would love to work with finding your passion or hobby and help encourage you along the way.

Experience

Arts Enrichment Coordinator
Oct 2017 - May 2019

City of Germantown

As an Arts Enrichment Coordinator, I worked to create curriculum for elementary schools in Germantown for before and after care students. I worked in both arts and music to create daily lesson plans for students.

Tutor
Aug 2014 - May 2017

Roosevelt University

As a tutor I worked to help students in both piano and voice. I worked with mostly musical theater students needing assistance in piano tests as well as basic music theory for them as well. For more advanced students I worked to tutor not only in music theory but ear training as well with aural and rhythmic dictations.
