About Marcus J.
Began formal study in music at 6 years old on piano. An exceptional guitar player for more than 25
years. Studied with Dennis Sandole (theory teacher to John Coltrane, Pat Martino, Ernie Watts, James
Moody, Michael Brecker, Jim Hall, Joe Diorio, Matthew Shipp). Graduate degree in jazz studies from
Northern Illinois University. Private instructor in applied guitar, theory, harmony, ear training,
improvisation and history. Adjunct professor at Prairie State, specializing in jazz music, applied guitar.
Currently performing with various jazz groups and solo around the Chicagoland area.
