I am an experienced brass teacher specializing in trombone since 2004. I earned a degree in Music Education and Trombone from Roosevelt University in 2009 while studying with Jay Friedman of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I regularly play around the area and am principal trombone with the Illinois Brass Band. I'm passionate about trombone and brass pedagogy. I believe that producing a great sound is the most important part of brass playing with technical ability coming after consistent sound is produced. I love working with students young and old and instilling a passion for brass playing in them. I have taught trombone students as young as 9 and as old as 80 and tailor my lessons to suit the specific student's needs.

I'm a professional trombone player that has played throughout the Midwest in a variety of styles. I have been teaching brass privately since 2004. I received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a Minor in Trombone Performance in 2009 from the Chicago College of Performing Arts where I studied with the great Jay Friedman of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

I currently am the principal trombonist with the Illinois Brass Band and play regularly with an all-female orchestra as well as an original music cooperative called Origin of Animal. I also freelance throughout the Chicago area. While I currently focus on classical and pops playing, I am well versed in jazz (big band and combo), funk, soul, rock, pop, and anything else under the sun.

I've worked with students of all ages (8-80 years old) throughout my tenure as a private instructor. While I primarily focus on trombone teaching, I also have taught trumpet/cornet, euphonium/baritone, beginner horn, and beginner tuba. Many of my students have gone on to study music in college and play in local community groups. My focus is on producing the best possible sound consistently. I use singing to help emphasize style as I believe the ideal lyrical trombone sound is very similar to the human voice.

During my first lessons with my students, I get to know them not only as a musician but like to learn a bit more about them as a person to help us connect. I believe being able to connect with ones students is very important in a one-on-one setting and have had great success with this technique. I look forward to working with you!
