About Luke H.
I grew up in Beaufort, South Carolina, picking up the guitar and bass at age 13. Before that, I had a strong interest in all types of music. After learning the basics on guitar, I formed a band in my tiny hometown, constantly learning and writing songs.
For college, I went to Western Washington University in Bellingham. This was in part due to Bellingham’s thriving music scene, being the launchpads for bands such as Death Cab for Cutie and The Posies. In Bellingham, I started playing shows and forming bands with other talented musicians. I gained some traction in the Northwest music scene while playing guitar and lead vocals in an indie-rock band called The Palisades. The Palisades went on multiple tours and had a KEXP in-studio performance.
After getting my bachelor’s degree in Geography in 2013, I moved down to Seattle and played in bands The City Hall (guitar and vocals) and The Co-Founder (bass and vocals). I frequently played Seattle venues such as The Vera Project, The Crocodile, and Chop Suey.
I started teaching guitar and bass at School of Rock Issaquah in 2017. I quickly gained a passion for teaching music. I helped put on some camps and concerts through School of Rock, including Queen, The Pixies, and Goth Rock.
In the fall of 2018, I went on an ambitious national tour with The Co Founder. We played 38 shows in 40 days around the United States.
I took my guitar skills international in February 2019, touring in Japan. Sponsored by Gibson Guitars, I played 11 shows in 12 days in Japan performing with The Co Founder.
In March 2019, I set off on another U.S. national tour with The Co Founder. We played numerous cities including the South By Southwest festival in Austin and the Vista music festival in Monterrey, Mexico.
Currently, I am teaching guitar and working as an instructional assistant for special education classrooms at Seattle Public Schools. I am still playing shows in Seattle and constantly growing as a musician. I am excited to keep teaching through Take Lessons and meet some awesome students!
***I am new to Take Lessons but here are a couple reviews from students I had/have at different music schools:

Luke was our daughters very first guitar teacher. I attribute my daughters love of playing guitar to her experience learning from Luke. His ability to communicate and challenge her is second to none. As a parent Luke communicated to us what was needed for her practice at home. We have recently moved out of state and we didn't realize how good we had it with Luke. Trying to replace him has been a real challenge.

Luke is the perfect guitar teacher for our 7 yr old! He is very patient and encouraging! Our daughter has progressed significantly since starting on Jan 2020. You can see the effort in his lesson plan and in the progress she has made. We are very grateful for such a wonderful teacher!

I loved my lesson with Luke! He very patient and knowledgeable and made me feel really comfortable. I definitely recommend Luke to anyone who wants to learn bass.

Luke is a fantastic teacher! He is patient, kind, and extremely talented. He makes each and every lesson pure joy! He is excited to learn new songs himself so that he can teach them to me. He has made learning acoustic guitar such a fun experience! Highly recommend him!

Great and patient teacher. He teaches you what you want to learn!

Luke is a very kind and thoughtful teacher! He made the lesson fun and education and I left each day with something new to practice! He found the best way to teach me quickly and was overall a great teacher!

Luke is a wonderful guitar teacher for our 7 yr old. He has managed to keep her engaged and show her how to have fun with the guitar. Our daughter really wanted to learn but was very frustrated and disengaged with her previous teacher. Luke teaches her songs that she typically listens to, has introduced her to new music and is able to connect with her at her level. Even since COVID 19 and having to switch to Zoom lessons, they haven’t missed a beat. We see her growing and becoming more confident each week. We are so grateful to Luke for all that he has done!

My 9 year old daughter has been working with Luke for nearly a year and she loves the lessons. Luke Is very organized but still allows freedom in song choices. He has been able to keep my daughter interested in guitar and her improvement has been steady and impressive. Highly recommend Luke as a teacher.

Luke has made guitar super fun for my six year old. He enjoys the lessons, practicing chord progressions, and writing silly little songs together. It's very sweet. Five thumbs up.

Luke is a great guitar teacher. He is so patient and kind with my daughter. She enjoys her her lessons and learns something new every week! I highly recommend Luke as a teacher.

Our 10 year old daughter has learned a great deal while taking lessons from Luke. He was always on time, professional, and a very patient teacher. He keeps the lessons focused and is very kind and shows interest in our daughter's musical taste. We highly recommend him as a teacher.

Luke is awesome! He has been incredibly positive and patient introducing guitar to my 6-7 year old son. He really works to make the lessons fun and interesting for him.

Luke is an amazing teacher! I was skeptical about on line lessons but they are working out great. My 13 year old daughter really enjoys working with Luke. She is learning a lot, gaining confidence and most importantly, enjoying making music. I highly recommend Luke.

Our daughter loves her bass lessons with Luke. We, as parents, appreciate his thoughtful, attentive approach!
