Hi! My name is Lucian and I am excited to teach any of the subjects I offer to those who can and want to learn from me. My first experience teaching was at an English language school in China to children when I was 19 years old and ever since I've loved the feeling of watching students demonstrate skills taught by yourself, ready to use them independently.
I've trained in classical clarinet/bass clarinet for 10 years and eager to continue advancing by passing on my skills to those who want to learn from me. I currently play both instruments with the UC Berkeley orchestra
Also have six years men's volleyball experience, three of them on the Cal Men's Volleyball team. I have coached for Cal's volleyball summer camps (younger kids through senior year of high school) and recently finished coaching El Cerrito High School's Girl's JV team's 2015 season.
Finally, I've been studying Chinese my whole life and am able to teach from the perspective of a native speaker.
Very insightful and helpful. Instructed me a lot in terms of orchestral clarinet playing.
Lucian helped me before a UC Berkeley Chamber Orchestra rehearsal. He helped me with musicality and phrasing that I was struggling to understand and put into my music, as I was only playing the notes on the page. He really helped me to understand what was needed from a clarinet player in a chamber group, as I had only played in large ensembles before. Lucian was very patient and engaging, and his teaching style is very interactive and not at all intimidating. I would whole-heartedly recommend him to any clarinet player.+ Read More
Lucian is a great clarinetist and a nice person. He always has positive feedback and has a way of really motivating his students with encouragement. I've known him for about 7 months now and he has really helped me improve my sound, intonation, technique and my solo and ensemble playing. I highly recommend him as a clarinet teacher as his mentoring is truly valuable.+ Read More
Took a few lessons on bass clarinet from him. He definitely knows his instrument very well. Highly recommended!
