At Juilliard, I currently teach keyboard harmony. While I've won many competitions as a soloist and value my students' virtuosic capabilities, I believe that piano teachers have a responsibility to teach more than the mechanics of performance. A firm understanding of harmony, voice-leading, and counterpoint gives students a life-long guide to advancing their musical abilities. All of my students benefit from learning figured bass, regardless of the style/setting in which they wish to perform, and we always have a lot of fun doing it! I look forward to helping you advance your musical expression.

My name is Louis and I can't wait to share the beauty of music with you! Currently a doctoral candidate and teaching fellow at Juilliard, I love to teach. I've been teaching private lessons since 2002 and have loved helping my students express themselves through music. I earned my master's degree from Juilliard ('15), where I taught music theory III and IV, and I earned my bachelor's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music ('12).

I am a highly flexible and well-rounded teacher. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn some Billy Joel, or a seasoned professional playing at the Metropolitan Opera, I look forward to helping you achieve a higher level of musical expression!

I had only great experiences studying with Louis Cruz. He gave me very clear ways of understanding complex music theory concepts, and approached teaching me piano with patients and a unique and encouraging attitude!
