    Mandolin beginnings and basics

Let's get you kick started and ready to join some jams! My goal is to get you set up for success being able to join others making music and having fun. We can start from the very basics like how to hold your mandolin, pick grip, etc. working on building skills like chopping chords to keep the rhythm going all the way to building breaks so you can be right in the action with confidence. Everything I teach will be catered to your specific skill level adding or removing embellishments to make learning less daunting, more attainable, and most importantly, FUN! If you have any questions about what I can offer you, something I can help with or me please don't hesitate to ask!

    About Leeland R.

My name is Leeland, and I've been teaching beginner mandolin locally for 2 years now and have decided to branch out and provide the opportunity of learning outside of my local area of central Arkansas. I strive to create a friendly and no pressure environment to encourage growth and knowledge while also preserving the most important part of music (in my opinion), having fun doing it. I teach primarily by ear which may seem intimidating to some, but I can assure you it will help you or your child excel in the journey of learning, and it isn't quite as scary as you would think. Learning by ear will allow one to be able to seamlessly join jams and be able to contribute something regardless of skill level or knowledge of the tunes. I aim to always help cater to an individual's skill level by changing the structure of a tune to add or remove certain embellishments to make learning more simplified, encourage improvisation, and again, make it FUN! My end goal is to see my students "graduate" and fly from the nest, just as I did with my teacher. My reward is knowing a student no longer needs me and can confidently go out on their own armed with knowledge to have fun and make music. If you have any questions about what I can offer you on your learning journey, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm more than happy to give some insight on what can be done, how we can structure curriculum, and much more.
