Learn Superb, Healthy Vocal Technique! - from a working singer with a Masters in Vocal Studies

Good, healthy, sustainable singing comes from technique based in science, anatomy, and informed choices! My largest goal is to help a student understand the sensations they are feeling and build a vocabulary around vocal technique. I believe the key to creating a successful and self-sustaining singer is to allow each student to define their own technical language. I certainly help to shape, guide, and answer questions but the ultimate agency must come from the singer themselves. Furthermore, as we define technique and apply it to repertoire in lessons, I am teaching musicianship, rhythm, pitch control, dynamics, and diction – making each singer a full and well-rounded musician. I am a classically trained mezzo-soprano with an active soloist and ensemble career as well as being a sought-after private voice coach, teaching artist, and conductor. In every performance I am dedicated to emotive musicality, healthy technique, language accuracy, and authentic emotional expression. I bring fastidious attention to details of rhythm, pitch, and musicality, and teach my students to do the same. I teach my students to participate in conscientious music making-- always striving for the ultimate goal of telling a story and illuminating shared humanity through music and arts.

As a music director with 10 years of experience working on musicals, conducting choirs, and teaching at the high school and college levels, I can help you prepare your repertoire no matter where you are starting from. Also, as someone who has sat behind the table (and sung in front of it) for hundreds of auditions, I can teach you best practices for comporting yourself, talking to your accompanist, setting your tempo, and everything else you need to know to be successful. My unique set of knowledge as both a working singer and a working music director and accompanist allows me to equip you with everything you need to improve and feel confident as a musician. By using a technique-based approach coupled with musical skills, expressiveness, artistry, and knowledge of proper musical practice and terminology, I will not only teach you but equip you to be your own teacher by make your own educated choices in the future. From my own classical training, soloist career, and the study of vocal anatomy and pedgogy during my 2 degrees in vocal performance, I am an expert on healthy, clear, productive vocal technique. You can expect to learn about your voice's different mechanisms (such as the hard and soft palette, the larynx, the vocal chords) and how you can adjust them to change your sound. For instance, did you know that a classical sound has a higher soft palette, while lowering your soft palette will give you a more speech-like sound that we associate with musical theatre. While that may sound very scientific to some, it is actually empowering and illuminating. By "seeing" your voice, like any other instrumentalist can see their instrument, you will be able to make informed decisions and choices to achieve the exact affect you need for any given piece. With my knowledge I can help you sing in a warm, classical sound or a bright belting musical theatre sound, or a soft whispery singer songwriter sound -- whatever you need.
