Hi, and welcome to my profile! I am a Manhattan based, freelance classical violinist and aerialist with a passion for teaching. A west coast transplant, I received my bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I was a student of Axel Strauss. Two years ago I moved out to New York to pursue my master's of music as a student of Hiroko Yajima at Mannes College, which I completed in 2011.
I have over 20 years of ballet and dance training, and have performed professionally with Ballet Idaho and Santa Clara Ballet. Here in NY, I am an active performer and teacher of aerial skills and flexibility training. I have trained in contortion with Jonathan Nosan and Isaac Pena.
In my spare time, I like to read, write, and practice aerial arts!
*** Lesson Details ***
I have 10 years of teaching experience, with students of all ages and abilities. In all lessons, my teaching philosophy focuses on a balance of strong technique and individual expression. My teaching style is structured, yet creative, adapting my teaching for each student.
For flexibility, dance, and stretching lessons, I tailor training to students' existing abilities, pushing them just beyond their comfort zone to help establish steady progress. Skills are taught not only to achieve progress, but also to encourage self-teaching and injury prevention.
For music, each lesson blends all elements of violin playing, building on previous learning, and establishing goals for the next lesson. I like to provide my students with skills and techniques that they can use in their own practice to help teach themselves, accelerating overall progress. Whatever your goals in music might be, I'd love to help you reach, and exceed them!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide no equipment. I expect the students to have their own equipment.
*** Specialties ***
Classically trained in dance in music. Additional training in contortion and aerial skills.
Excellent violin teacher
Lara is an excellent violin teacher I ever met. She is very patient and really know your needs. She can help you overcome the hard points easily.
Could not ask for more!
Lara is a very personable and engaging instructor but always professional. We have had her instructing our daughter for over a year now. Lara has always been able identify and meet our daughter where ever she is. With a 5-6 year old child that is not an easy task to accomplish but she makes it look easy and natural! We are extremely happy with how our daughter is progressing with Lara.
She is excellent violin teacher and is very patient to my 7 years old daughter.
Lara is extremely competent, very helpful, and thoroughly understanding of my goals as a student. She is a perfectionist who is acutely aware of what good playing sounds like and how to achieve a flawless sound, yet she is never burdensome or overbearing in her corrections and comments. Hour-long lessons with Lara always fly by. I'd highly recommend her for a student of any skill level, from those who just started playing, like myself, to those who wish to perfect the art.
