Discover the Piano Through Ear Training, Learn How to Read Sheet Music and Chord Charts

My passion is teaching music as a language that you will come to understand. I don't only teach notes on a page, but an understand of music theory (the building blocks of music). If you want to know not just how to play, but also create music, send me a message! I learned to play piano by ear, and then studied classical repertoire as well. I have 10 years experience in gospel music, and 2 years gigging in a country band. I have taught piano lessons for 6 years, and have had a variety of students from different backgrounds along the way. My goal is to teach a variety of styles and tailor lessons to your unique musical taste! Everyone's musical journey is different, and so each lesson is personalized to your needs.

About Lane H.

4.9
(19)
I am a professional keyboard player with experience playing in a variety of ensembles. I learned to play piano by ear, and have a rich background in gospel music. Over the years, I have been privileged to learn from and play with talented musicians in many environments, including churches, studios, and college ensembles, as well as gigging regularly with the band every weekend in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. I play piano, Hammond organ, and keyboard instruments of many different genres including Rhodes, Clavinet, and synthesizers. I have always had a very open mind concerning music, and this has allowed me to explore a variety of styles, including jazz, gospel, country, funk, reggae, and classical. I have attended East Central Community College in Decatur, MS for the past four semesters studying classical piano, and have ambitions to study jazz at a university in the fall. I have always felt that understanding music theory is the best foundation to learning music. If you understand how music works, you can not only play what the greats before us have, but you can use those skills to create new music. In the last few years I have also gained an appreciation for classical repertoire, and how the popular music of today evolved from it.

Taking piano lessons with Lane has been an exciting experience ever since day one. Being my first attempt into piano lessons I wasn't sure what to expect but Lane is strategic and knows exactly where to start and which road suits you best. It has been a beautiful journey so far and I am very happy with my fast progress. His friendly, accommodating and welcoming personality is even more motivating for me to participate at my highest potential. I am truly grateful to have found him here and continue to work together.
