Play Better
I want to facilitate growth and progress with your saxophone playing. To help you develop an understanding of musical concepts and practice applying them to the saxophone. I can help transform your playing. We can simplifying more advanced musical concepts, because music Theory and harmony, rhythm, and melody do not exist in a vacuum. And they only matter as much as we can implement them. Sending air through the instrument is absolutely necessary, but so is actively listening to music. I immensely value critical listening and remembering to play when we pick up the instrument.

About Kyle G.

I grew up playing alto and tenor saxophone and performed in concert bands, marching bands, and jazz bands until college. My studies focused on Jazz while at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
I have primarily worked as an audio engineer since moving to Los Angeles in 2013. Record making drastically shifted the way I view playing the saxophone. I have worked on top 40's pop records, jazz combos, grimey rock, hip hop, soundtracks for tv shows and movies, as well as voices for cartoons.
I have specialized in diversity my entire career, which has allowed me to stay relevant in multiple spaces. In 2019 I started teaching saxophone lessons, and teaching has afforded me the opportunity to give back to the saxophone community.
I build lesson plans to fit the needs and goals of each student individually. I strive for similar fundamental pillars with all of my students. But, no one develops at the same pace and everyone has different markers of success. I want to help saxophone players sound the way they want to sound, and that starts with critically listening to great music.
I have a deep love of music theory. When I was younger, I made the mistake of isolating all of the theoretical concepts from the actual practice of creating music. And I sounded like a fancy-swirly-doodle robot. Making records has given me the perspective to understand the importance of blending the fundamentals together and create something worth listening to. My failures can hopefully maximize the time my students practice to grow into better players.
I strongly encourage students to record themselves, which is also something I can guide people through, and also to perform with other musicians in any capacity.

Kyle is fantastic with kids. Our daughter has struggled in the past with music, but Kyle gave her the encouragement and support she needed to improve.
