My name is Kojo, professional musician & educator with my specific focus on the Djembe orchestra of Guinea, West Africa. I began studying and playing Djembe back in 1992 in NYC with local master drummers between Manhattan & my home town, Brooklyn, NY. Soon after that I began studying with Djembefola-Mahari Fajimba Keita out of Wash, DC who would later introduce me to his teacher, Grandmaster Mamady Keita, whom I would goto study with at his Tam Tam Mandingue School in Guinea, West Africa in 1996. In 2007 I founded my arts education consultant company, TheHand Arts & Edutainment, after spending years as performance artist & company musician with the Forces Of Nature Dance Theater Company & then later join the Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater; both based in NYC. Currently, I am a founding member of my percussion soul/funk band - NUBIAN MESSENGERS. Djembe has been my love after learning to play my first instrument, piano as a child and then becoming a Hip-Hop DJ in my teenage years. Djembe is a source of my inner-strength that keeps me connected & centered. So join the Djembe Journey because, as my Mamady Keita says, "Djembe has No Borders".

Kojo is the man! Very easy to work with, spends his time answering questions, and is patient with his instruction. Very straightforward teaching style, and makes online learning as good as it can possibly get. Will definitely be continuing with many more lessons
