I have a Percussion Performance Degree from Arizona State University, have authored over 6 books on how to play better including: ART Approach to Keyboard Percussion Sightreading, ART Approach to Rhythm!, Turn It Up & Lay It Down, The Book (with Joe Bergamini and Spence Strand) I have over 26 years of teaching experience and constantly work to find better ways to show people how to be great. I am currently working on 4 new books in the Percussion area and about a dozen more for other instruments.I work with each student to find out what motivates them and how to set goals to reach whatever level they seek. I have worked with almost every age possible and find it exciting to see people find out how great they are.

Lessons with me will be positive and you will be pushed to be your best. I work with each student to find out their goals and then show them the fastest and best way to reach those goals. As long as you follow instructions and practice, you can expect amazing results! Most of my students are in the top bands, make All-State auditioned groups, get highest ratings at Solo & Ensemble contests and know how to play!Even when time is a concern, I can still help you move forward. I always take where students are and show them how to get to the next step. I can move at any rate the student wants to move. I am committed to having them have fun and get better!

Write a ReviewKevin is a great teacher. Looking forward to the future !
Kevin is a very patient instructor. Makes you feel very welcome and comfortable right away especially for a person who has never had any lessons ever in the past.
Kevin does a great job teaching our young child. Very patient but challenging which keeps our child motivated to continue to learn.
If you or someone is wanting to take lessons I highly recommend Kevin because I started knowing almost nothing about how to play on any type of instrument relating to percussion but Kevin has helped me understand how to count and look at the Music in a way that is understandable to play and read.
+ Read MoreI have been taking music lessons of various types in and outside of school since elementary school and have never had a teacher who introduces concepts quite like Mr.Fuhrman. Things that I have struggled with ever since they were introduced; especially regarding rhythm/counting have become incredibly simple- as they should be! My progress regarding percussion (which I've been working with for over 4 years) has increased exponentially since working with him. Not only will he highly recommend essential practice, but he's willing to give you various strategies to manage time and to be able to fit the practice in. I've had music teachers (all of whom were very competent musicians) telling me to practice since the second grade, but no one's ever set aside some lesson time to discuss how to fit it in. I am a beginning music teacher myself and have already implemented some of the concepts he has taught with my own students. He's not only an incredibly skillful musician, but he is an amazing teacher as well. You won't regret doing lessons with him.

My daughter had an easy time connecting and was very excited about drumming.

Kevin asked pertinent questions about my background and used that information to tailor the first lesson. He went beyond the scheduled 30 minutes to provide a complete and coherent beginning to my studies: the extra time did not upset my schedule and I appreciated his going beyond to get me off to a good start. Kevin had a lot of stuff to present yet allowed me to interrupt with questions, which he knowledgeably answered. His personality is relaxed and friendly. Observing him with another student before my lesson, I saw that he offered criticism considerately.
My first lesson was a good experience (4 stars). I don't know if he is the best ever (5 stars), but he must be darn close.
First lesson went well!
Kevin is a fantastic instructor!
I have been taking private lessons from Kevin for two years now as we'll as receiving instruction in Band for the last three years. Kevin not only is an incredible percussionist himself, but he has a knack for being able to convey ideas to students that they can understand. New and better approaches to teaching rhythm, personalized lesson planning to suit a student's needs, and a vast knowledge of music from years of professional experience are just a few things that Kevin brings to the table. If you're looking for a percussion instructor, I would highly recommend Kevin as your first choice!
