If you're like me, signing up for music lessons comes with a healthy amount of trepidation.

I've been there. Pay a bunch of money, work on exercises for an hour, and leave feeling no better equipped to start playing real music. Rinse, repeat.

This is the big mistake I see so many instructors make when teaching new students, and it's why so many new guitar players give up. The conviction to teach fundamentals and technique overshadows the most important lesson - to nuture confidence and enjoyment while playing. 

Make no mistake, we'll learn the fundamentals, and you're in good hands - I have degrees in music theory and composition, and I've studied, performed, and taught classical guitar for over 15 years. But none of that means anything to you if we don't APPLY it to what you want to play. 

My approach: You pick the material and we work from the ground up to develop the skills you'll need to make it come out of your guitar. We'll use the instrument as a teaching tool to help you understand what's going on in the music and to give you the skills to start making sense of music theory as a whole. With luck, you'll leave our lessons with the skills to tackle new challenges, and most importantly, JOY in the new music you can make!

Shall we begin?

I'm a classically trained guitarist with bachelor's degrees in music theory and composition.

I have over 15 years of study, performance, and instruction under my belt and I've taught all ages and ability - including special needs and foreign language students. 

I believe firmly that every person is a musician on their personal stage of the journey. Our job as instructors is primarily to help our students develop the confidence to see themselves that way.
