Perfect your Piano skills with an experienced pianist and teacher

I have been teaching the Colorado Springs area for 30 years. My beginning lessons are geared to developing a solid base for reading, listening, memorizing, and a healthy technical approach to the piano. I do not use standard method books as I feel it is my job to teach to your students individual learning style and work on what your student needs as well as use music they love to play. I have had many students do well in competitions and have had many continue their music studies through the college level up through doctorate. I am looking forward to working with your student and introducing them to the amazing world of piano and creating music.

    About Karen D.

I began my musical journey at the age of 6. Through the years I have studied privately for about 40 years. On of my last performance coaches was Dr. Yelena Balabanova, Steinway Artist, Concert pianist, graduate of the Moscow Conservatory. This may explain why I have a passion for late romantic Russian music such as Rachmaninov. I continue to practice, study, and when possible, perform. My students have played many different kinds of music including jazz, worship and praise music, Jazz band music, pop etc. I do, however, believe in the "meat and potatoes" approach, meaning there is no replacement for theory, technical instruction, and classical repertoire. There is so much music that even for the early beginners my students usually love the music they create. I also love to use the telling of colorful stories of the classical masters to engage the student and increase their enthusiasm for the music they are creating. We try to always have music ready for performance so they can play for the grandparents or friends. I am very passionate for what I do and playing the piano and I work to pass that on to my students.
