Violin with Kai Z.

I am currently a Violin Performance major under the tutelage of Ann Setzer at DePaul University. I am also a freelance violinist and teacher. I play in orchestras, musical theater pit orchestras, chamber groups, and as a soloist. Playing and teaching violin is my greatest passion. As violinist, we learn creative expression, memory training, and physical and mental flexibility that we work on everyday to better our technique and musicality. I believe that anyone can play violin if they have a passion for music and are willing to work hard. I work with a range of students starting from beginners to advanced level students. I have tutored both children and adults. For me, learning and playing violin is about exploration and experimentation and I approach each lesson committed to sparking a students imagination, musicality, and musical understanding using these principles. My aim as a teacher is to help students achieve their musical goals, strengthen their technique, and work on cleaning and polishing the pieces they are learning. The willingness to practice and to practice effectively is extremely important to become a successful violinist and my goal in tutoring more advanced players is help their practices be more effective and focused.
