About Julia R.
"I help singers, like you, realize their complete vocal potential through holistic and customized training of the voice, body and mind.
My teaching is about giving you tools to find your authentic voice and get back your power. It's so easy for us singers to get caught up with how we're sounding, instead of understanding the building blocks of what we need to do to achieve our ideal sound. We wonder why we aren't getting consistent results, and why vocal freedom seems out of reach.
Whether your dreams are big, or if you are excited to learn, I would love to be part of your vocal journey and help you find the consistency and confidence in your singing."
Along with my career as an opera singer, I taught private voice for over 15 years. I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Westminster Choir college and a Master degree in Opera Performance from The University of Texas in Austin.
My students regularly perform leading roles in Musical Theater and Opera, both in regional companies, off-broadway, and educational institutions. They can also be heard as solo artists or in bands throughout the USA, ranging from Pop to Rockabilly, with numerous tour dates and album releases.
They have received many honors including final selections for NBC's The Voice, Miss America pageants, awards in vocal competitions, artistic scholarships for conservatories and universities, and Texas All-State Choir selection (one of the most selective All-State Choirs).
Additionally, her students perform in a wide range of genres -from Classical music/Opera and Musical Theater to Contemporary, and Popular music.
As an opera singer, Julia has been praised by Musical America as a "lovely lyric soprano", impressing with her "warm tone and agile phrasing" (Austin XL) performed with companies such as National Moravian-Silesian Theater, Opera Orlando, Opera Naples, Annapolis Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, Gulfshore Opera, Bel Canto at Caramoor, North Shore Music Festival, Austin Lyric Opera, Light Opera of New York, Delaware Valley Opera, North Dutchess Symphony, and Tri-Cities Opera. Major roles include Marietta (Die tote Stadt), Madama Butterfly, Donna Elvira/Anna (Don Giovanni), Violetta (La Traviata), Fiordiligi (Cosí fan tutte), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Susannah, Antonia (Les contes d'Hoffmann), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), and Magnolia Hawks (Showboat),
She is the Grand Prize Winner of the Jenny Lind Competition, Connecticut Concert Opera Competition, The Marcella Kochanska Sembrich Competition, and 5 Towns Music and Art Foundation Competition, 2nd prize winner of the Kosciuszko Foundation Competition and the National Federation of Music Clubs Biennial Young Artist Awards, 3rd prize winner of the New Jersey State Opera Competition, as well as a grant recipient from CareerBridges Foundation.
*** Lesson Details ***
What happens in a Lesson? In order to train your physical voice, it is necessary to do vocal exercises, in the same way that one needs to train at a gym. There is no "magic key" to unlock one's voice; it is a matter of daily practice and muscle strengthening/stretching. So, the first part of the lesson will be focused on vocal exercises specifically tailored to YOUR VOICE and its needs. The second half of the lesson is repertoire focused, i.e. SINGING! We will work on any songs and styles that YOU choose. Whether you want to sing Classical, Musical Theater, or Pop, there is a healthy and communicative way to sing!
*** Equipment ***
High Speed Internet connection. High Quality WebCam, IPad, Computer, Etc. The student may also provide a recording device, iPhone, etc.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical and Broadway style singing, but have extensive experience in Contemporary Commercial Music as well. I teach a healthy approach to all styles, and modify technical approaches towards the genre that the student is most interested in.

Julia is an amazing vocal teacher.she is a wonderfully encouraging and enthusiastic

My 8 year old daughter just had her first singing lesson with Julia. I was concerned because though my daughter has great enthusiasm for singing, she has much to learn regarding pitch and musicality. Julia was remarkable with her! She was so positive, patient, and effective at helping my daughter learn to hear pitch. We're definitely sticking with Julia!

Excellent Instructor
I've been taking lessons with Jule for about 2 months now, and both myself and others are already seeing a very positive improvement in my singing voice. Julie is helping me to deconstruct the bad habits that I've developed prior to formal instruction, and build strength in the muscles that should be doing the vocal work. She is also helping with musical artistry in general, to the point where my singing lessons have had a positive impact on my work on other instruments.
Julie is a consummate artist, teacher and musical mentor. And by the way, wow- what a voice she has!
Exemplary of how best to teach
Julie-Anne has been incredibly helpful to me. Her patience, knowledge, professionalism, communication style, and kindness have made it really easy for me to listen, practice, sing and feel confident that my success was imminent. From the first couple of lessons I began improving, a credit to her overall. As an over 50 student, getting back into the entertainment game after 25 years of absence, I was really nervous about taking the reins as a lead singer again. Julie dispelled by doubts, and worked with me to bring the best I have to the surface. She's great, and that is the truth. It doesn't matter your age, gender or goals, I am positive she will be able to help you. Thanks, Julie!
I learned I am in the right place.
I have studied on Broadway in New York acting and singing for many years. After just a few lessons I can say that Julie Anne is a very very good teacher. Pay attention to her and you will learn. It will take time. Remember the best way to BROADWAY is practice practice practice.
Voice Lessons
My daughter has been taking voice lessons for about 2 years now and has been pleased with every aspect of her interaction with Julie-Anne.
Since first starting as a shy and nervous student, she developed into a performer who participated in several musicals and found musical theater to be her true passion!
Thank you for all your support!
Amazing coach and mentor!!!
I cannot say enough about Julie. She is working with my daughter and mostly every time I drop her off, Julie comes out to "chat". I really love her enthusiasm for her craft and how well she blends with my daughter. Also have to say that my daughter has had a few voice coaches, and she absolutely loves working with Julie. Every time she plans on a trip home from college, the first appointment made is with Julie. So glad we found her! She is a gem of a coach and a person!!!!!
Julie is a first-class performer and singer
I have known Julie for 10 years. She is dazzling on the stage, a wonderful colleague and an A+ teacher. Julie has had amazing vocal training and her work ethic is admirable. She is an enthusiastic person and teacher who immediately puts anyone at ease. She is inspiring to the students and would be a fine teacher for any age and level of study. She is well versed in most repertoire from classical baroque music to pop music of today. I recommend Julie as a teacher without reservation.
The Whole Package
Our twelve year old daughter has been interested in singing and theater for a few years. She joined a few local theater groups and was cast in smaller, non-singing rolls. A year ago Julie started giving her voice lessons and what a difference it has made. Since then she has auditioned for two lead parts and gotten cast in both! Julie has helped with her breathing and control and overall voice quality, but she has also improved her delivery, acting, stage presence, and confidence. Julie has been priceless! She is a wonderful teacher who pushes her students out of their comfort zone so they continue to grow and improve their skill set each week. Julie's enthusiasm coupled with her caring and engaging personality truly brings out the best in her students!
A phenomenal singer/colleague
Julie is an outstanding performer, musician, and colleague whom I regard as one of the finest people I have had the pleasure to perform with. She is extremely dedicated to her craft and has been noted for her nuanced musicianship. In addition, she is a hilarious person who brings her personality to each character she embodies. I have seen her work as performer and know her as a person off stage, and I truly believe that she is the type of person who is able to communicate to others how they can improve their singing.
Julie is a person whom I recommend without question, and whom I look forward to singing with for years to come.
Incredible vocal results
As the president of an artist management company, Julie is the first person I go to for vocal training for my artists. Her ability to produce awesome results, as well as her warm personality, make her an exemplary teacher!
