Hi! I'm Josh, a passionate music educator in Boston, MA. I have taught over 1000 lessons over the past three years to piano, voice, and theory students of all ages. From preparing for rock-vocal style auditions at Berklee College of Music to helping re-discovering the fun of classical piano lessons, there is nothing I enjoy more than working with students on achieving their goals. As a gigging musician and a lifetime student myself, I know what it takes to improve, master, and most importantly ENJOY your time at your instrument. Looking forward to helping you reach all your music goals!
I eat/breathe/sleep music. From writing and conducting my first A Capella piece in high school to playing in bands that have toured around the world, music is my passion and my life! I value nothing more than finding that passion in others and working together to turn musical fantasies into realities.
From grade school to high school I took rigorous classical piano lessons. In 2006-07 I attended two summer programs at Berklee College of Music where I studied jazz/rock performance, and continued to study jazz piano at Washington University.
At Boston University, I studied classical music composition/theory, and was accepted to for a dual degree in Music Composition, Psychology, but decided to pursue music as a minor in order to allow more time for gigging. Since relocating to Boston, I have performed 250+ shows in various ensembles around the greater Boston area.

Private piano instruction
I wanted to improve myself on my piano skills and I choose Joshua to teach me online. He is a really great teacher and also very kind. I can write a lot about how great person and a professional he is but I want to make this short; he is the one of the best.+ Read More
Josh is a great fit for my daughter, who is interested in singing mainly pop music. She's been really enjoying her lessons.
Great experience. Very helpful.
Great first lesson. Instructor is clearly very experienced and took time to get to know my background, my goals, and test my basic skills to start to outline my curriculum. Studio was well set up, I felt very comfortable and look forward to continuing my lessons.+ Read More
Josh is awesome! He is so patient and definitely has a unique way of bonding with my daughter - so she listens! Incredible!
I alway look forward to my lessons with Josh. He is very personable and enthusiastic in his teaching methods and very understanding of one's learning level.
Josh is a great teacher, a good combination of song learning and technical skill work. In many cases the technical aspects we're working on are being used in the song itself and it brings a nice level of practicality to things.
Very encouraging, prompt, easy to work with. I'm looking forward to our next session and will likely purchase a block of hour-long sessions next time.
Fantastic experience thus far
I'm 53 and play guitar pretty well but have only focused on singing in the last few months. Things weren't coming together like I wanted and I decided to take lessons. Josh has been fantastic to work with. He brings lots of enthusiasm even when working with a rank novice like me. I also appreciate how he has tailored his approach to focus on my individual goals.+ Read More
I took piano lessons with Josh for several months in my home, and it was a really great experience. I have a significant classical background, and was taking lessons to learn more about jazz theory and performance. Josh has a tremendous knowledge of music theory and is also an excellent performer to boot. I made a ton of progress in a short amount of time, and I would definitely highly recommend Josh as a teacher!+ Read More
First lesson. Josh obviously immediately established a good rapport with my 5-year-old daughter. Have great expectations toward the future sessions.
My first lesson with Joshua could not have gone better. He is extremely easy to work with, a super nice guy, and a great teacher. He took some time to get to know me before jumping into the lesson and I really feel that was an amazing and unique thing to do, he truly cares about his students.
Joshua has the whole package. I came into this just wanting singing lessons, but he is also going to help me with songwriting and performance techniques, which are both things I truly want as well as the singing lessons.
I can't wait until next time!
Josh was an OUTSTANDING piano teacher for our son. Not only does he have amazing musical talent, he is amazing with kids. Josh's way with kids is that he makes them feel comfortable, meets them where they are at, and also makes the whole experience super fun for the kids. Josh was able to really motivate Jared to love the lessons, and even do his practice. I was a little unsure about just finding a teacher on this site, but Josh really exceeded my expectations. I cannot imagine a better piano teacher for our son. We moved and hence it it going to be hard to find someone that is even half as good.+ Read More
Josh is great! He kept my child engaged and made him excited about piano and singing. Now he practices piano everyday and asks when is his next lesson. Thanks Josh!
Josh was great! He was knowledgeable and very easy to get along with.
I started taking piano lessons with Josh a year ago and I am happy to say it is a great experience! Josh is an amazing teacher. He is only focused on what his student want and build his lessons around that to further their growth. Josh is flexible with scheduling lessons and is accommodating when lessons need to be changed or cancelled. He is overall a fun, interactive, and patient teach. I highly recommend him!+ Read More
I had weekly lessons on introductory singing (warmup exercises, singing pop songs and choir songs, and reading music sheet) for 4 months.
Enjoyable, flexibility in learning what I wanted to learn, and building on what I practice at home = best instructor ever.
Wow! No music instructor connected as closely as Josh did with my 13-year-old son. Josh met him on his own terms, using the music that my son likes rather than dragging him through other kinds. And did I mention that he's, all in all, is a great guy? If you want an easy going, yet energetic, coach who can motivate his student, you've hit on the right coach!+ Read More
Joshua is fantastic! He is clear with his instructions, he is patient and he is fun as well! I am learning a lot from him and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable and informative experience.
Three Reasons to take lessons from Josh:
1. He's a musical genius. Seriously, the man knows his stuff.
2. Hes a fabulous teacher. Whatever your learning style, learning preference, difficulties, etc. he has an approach that will help make you into a better musician and performer. He wants to teach you WHATEVER it is you want to learn about music and performance, not just the basics-he wants to find out how music engages you personally, which is a rare and really cool thing.
3. He works at your pace. you can work on improving your skills as slow (or as fast) as you want.
Basically, Josh is a wonderful teacher with a wealth of technical skill and talent in addition to a great deal of compassion and patience making him everything a person could really ask for in a teacher. I recommend him whole heartedly!
Josh is one of the most patient vocal coaches I've worked with. He really takes the time to get to know your voice and the style of music you're aiming to sing. Highly recommend giving him a try. It's worth it.
I challenged Josh with a specific goal: to learn how to sing a cover specific song with playback for a surprise proposal to my girlfriend. I took 5 lessons within which he taught me some voice warm-ups, gracefully insisted on catching the right key, on correct breathing and on stressing the right vowels. Gradually, I as I was practicing with his instruction in mind, I noticed myself improving.
I feel that his comments and modifications made a considerable impact on my performance, and this was an integral part of the success to my surprise.
I highly recommend Josh as a singing teacher!
Josh is a great instructor, he knows his stuff and is great with explaining concepts in layman's terms for someone like me who is just getting started with piano.
Along with being a great instructor, he is good company in general, which makes the lessons a lot more fun though they do tend to go by too quickly.
All in all, unless you're boring and without a sense of humor, I'd highly recommend choosing Josh as your instructor. You'll definitely get your money's worth.
We had a great experience with Josh, who gave our 12 yr old daughter piano lessons for about 10 months. He was very flexible and willing to create a lesson plan that worked well for her so she remained engaged. He also had a great deal of patience, yet was also very persistent in helping her master certain concepts. I would definitely recommend him to others.+ Read More
After years of wanting to learn the piano, but not having the time to do so, I finally decided to give it a try. Josh is an amazing teacher who takes the time to get to know you and how you learn best. We worked at a pace that was both comfortable and challenging, and made me look forward to each lesson.
I would recommend Josh to anyone who is looking for a teacher that is patient, fun, and that tailors the lessons to your goals and skill level.
My daughter really enjoyed taking lessons with Josh. He was super approachable and understood that she was tired of playing classical music and ready for a change. She looked forward to her lesson each week and practiced more because she was engaged by her teacher. We'd highly recommend Josh!+ Read More
Josh is an awesome teacher. My piano skills have improved by leaps and bounds since I started taking lessons with him. When people here me play they can't believe I've only played for a couple months. I had been singing for a few years before meeting Josh and he is by far my favorite singing teacher. Not only has he helped me find my own sound and style but his unique take on teaching has made me a better singer, songwriter and overall musician. He also prepared me for my Berklee audition in the winter and I got in because of all his help and advice. Amazing teacher, I highly recommend him to students of all ages, whether you're just starting out or need help songwriting he is definitely the man for that!+ Read More
Learning piano with Josh has been an amazing experience!
I learned rigorous classical piano playing for 10 years growing up, but I was never able to find fun in it that I end up giving it up in high school. Beginning of this year, I decided to give it another try, and wanted to learn popular music and music theory as a change.
It was very fortunate that I found Josh. He is a very talented musician as well as a great teacher - a unique rare combo. He always tailors his teaching to my level and learning speed, teaches in a very interactive way with lots of examples, balances the pace of each lesson nicely between reviewing past material and stretch the learning horizon with new materials, and his love and passion in music come through and it is infectious. He also is very humble and curious and constantly seek feedback and new ideas to improve his teaching.
Now instead of dragging my feet to piano lessons, I actually practice daily at home and look forward to each weekend piano lesson with Josh. I'm so glad I found him as my teacher and would highly recommend anyone who'd like to learn music and have a ton of fun in the process!
Wonderful teacher! I would highly recommend Josh!
Josh is truly a great teacher. I took piano lessons with him, and I have to say that he is always encouraging, and his teaching style let's you grow at whatever pace you feel comfortable. He is incredibly talented and so friendly! If I had the money, I would take lessons from him multiple times a week. I had a background of voice lessons, and he really helped me to learn how to translate my knowledge of voice into my practice of the piano. He is passionate, full of talent, and flexible with his schedule.
You will enjoy every lesson you have with Josh!
Best voice teacher ever!
I have had so much fun working with Josh this year in voice lessons! He creates such a positive, energetic, and nonjudgemental atmosphere, and I look forward to lessons every week. He is always so thoughtful in his feedback, and has been able to work with me on achieving my personal singing goals. I have been so lucky to be Josh's student and anyone who takes lessons from him will not be disappointed!
Exactly what you're looking for
I highly recommend taking lessons with Josh. As a young professional who always had an interest in music but never pursued it, I found Josh to be the perfect teacher. He got to know me and found out what my personal musical goals were. Then he adapted lessons to fit both my (beginner) skill level and my taste in music. He has a wealth of knowledge and can incorporate theory into the lessons to whatever detail you may desire which I personally enjoyed. He also was very adept at recognizing where I was having trouble and helping me work through those areas.
I found his own musical talent to be extremely inspiring and even attended some of his concerts. His skill and dedication to music definitely helps him in being the effective teacher that he is.
The environment of his lessons is relaxed and comfortable and he was always available to contact and willing to help if I had questions between lessons.
If you're looking for a piano teacher, look no further. Josh is the best.
Once in a whileâ¦.
You meet someone with extreme talent. Maybe its natural, maybe its through thousands of hours of practice and dedication. With Josh, its both. This man knows what he is talking about, from the basics of how to properly place your hands on the piano, to the advanced music theory that makes everything work, he knows his stuff. My only regret is being a broke 20 something because the 8 weeks we worked together I went from novice, with almost no musical history, to someone who has the tools and confidence to continue my musical education on my own.
Id like to thank Josh for his time and patience, it really helped out, so much so that my family took notice of my interest and bought me two books full of sheet music for Christmas!

TAKE LESSONS WITH JOSH HE IS FREAKIN GREAT
Josh has a very flexible teaching style and a wide range of musical knowledge so he can teach you to play the way you always wanted.
I've taken piano lessons with Josh for over a year, and it's the most fun I've had learning an instrument. He's a great teacher, and can teach theory while still keeping the lessons fun and applicable. He's fun to be around, and I would highly recommend Josh as a teacher if you're looking to learn piano while having a good time!
Not your average piano teacher.
I've been taking lessons with josh for 2 months. His relaxed style and flexibility create such a welcoming environment that I forget my usual self-conciousness. He's attentive and focuses on what his student's interests and needs are, which, as an adult learner, is far more useful for getting all the new information it to stick than the rigidity of yore.
