Hello Potential Students!

If you're interested in learning how to sit down at the piano and play any pop or rock song, but aren't as interested in becoming a professional classical pianist in a symphony, I'm the teacher for you. I specialize in teaching students who are just starting out and want to feel comfortable at the piano and able to play--and maybe even sing along--to the songs they love. Along the way we'll learn the basics of music theory and how to recognize common patterns in popular songs, and, if you dare, how to start making songs of your own. : )

I've taught beginner piano for a number of years, and have specialized in jazz, electronic music, and pop/rock. I've played in a number of bands and enjoy writing songs of my own. I pride myself in my teaching abilities and think that if you're just starting out or have little experience, I can help you ramp up fairly quickly.

I took lessons from Joshua for three months while my normal piano teacher was on vacation for the summer. In those months, my skills improved tremendously, leaving my teacher in awe of how much I improved during his hiatus. Josh worked with me on developing my technical skills and knowledge of music theory and was incredibly successful in helping me build on my previous skills. Joshua was understanding and patient as a teacher, helping me as I struggled through challenging pieces and encouraging me to continue practicing and not give up. Overall, Josh was a great teacher and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a piano teacher!

Josh is a really great teacher - he has a structured plan he follows, he answers questions well, he cares about your goals, he is patient, and he's pretty funny too! I've been progressing faster than I imagined through weekly sessions with Josh and always can't wait for the next one!

Josh gave our son piano lessons, and he was fun, creative, and always prompt. Would highly recommend.

Unlike the piano lessons I took as a kid, I actually look forward to my weekly piano lessons with Josh! Josh is kind, friendly and has the unique ability of translating difficult tasks and music concepts into digestible chunks. Before we got started, Josh took the time to really understand my goals, and has adapted our lessons accordingly. As an adult rediscovering piano, who is more interested in song composition and music theory than in perfecting technical ability, Josh has been the perfect teacher. It’s only been a few lessons and he has already armed me with the tools to play some of my favorite tunes on the piano. I highly recommend Josh to pianists who are looking for a fun and personalized approach to learning music.
