Hi, my name is Josh Weinberg. I have over 10 years experience teaching drums & about 5 years experience teaching music production, & music theory (to all different ages). I have received an award from Berklee College of Music's Community Affairs Dept. for my teaching work in the Boston area (see photo). I graduated Berklee cum laude honors and w/ 2 degrees, Drum Performance & Electronic Production & Design. I teach a wide variety of techniques & cater each lesson plan to each student, to maximize our time together & help make the student the best musician he/she can be! I can travel to you for in-home lessons or you can come to my studio in Newton, which is a nice, isolated space where you won't be distracted by other lessons happening in the adjacent room like in some other studios/schools. In addition to teaching, I frequently performs with bands around the northeast U.S., & have performed with internationally acclaimed artists such as Nona Hendryx, Simon Shaheen, & Richard Devine. In the past 6 years, I've performed in 8 countries - USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, Turkey, & Ghana.
I teach African & Afro-Cuban percussion to children ages 11-18, these children come to this center when they are suspended from their normal schools and attend a program which is short-term (often staying only 1 or 2 weeks) and focuses on building developmentally appropriate decision-making skills and providing outlets for emotional & psychological pain, such as music.
- Experienced with production and sound design in a wide variety of software/hardware systems including: Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Max/MSP, Csound, Logic, Reason, Native Instruments Komplete, Tassman, TouchOSC, OSCulator, and much more.
Experience in the following areas:

- Original Compositions ranging from Deep House to Microtonal psytrance
I have been teaching privately for over 10 years. I have worked with students of all ages. I have taken what I've learned from studying drums myself for over 12 years, with 6 different teachers and I formulate what I feel like is the best of the best lesson plans, which I custom make for each student, each lesson to provide the most growth and most positive experience possible.
If desired, I can teach out of several books - including Garwood Whaley - Musical Studies for Intermediate Snare Drummer, Charley Wilcoxon - The All-American Drummer: 150 Rudimental Solos, Charles Dowd - Funky Primer for the Rock Drummer, and Tommy Igoe - Groove Essentials 1.0+2.0
Or I can teach without any books as I have a wealth of knowledge in me!
I teach rudiments, hand+foot techniques, coordination exercises, grooves - stemming from rock to funk to jazz, bossa nova, samba, west african, and much more.
Experience performing with a variety of styles & bands ranging from pop, rock, funk, fusion, jazz, to afrobeat, brazilian, afro-cuban, hiphop, EDM, reggae, and more. Have played clubs, festivals, weddings, corporate events, ski resorts, television appearances, & more throughout U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, Turkey, and Ghana.
I tutored Berklee students, ages 18-22, in composition & sound design using Csound as well as tutoring in audio programming (using C & C#)
Taught Drumset, hand percussion, & Production/Sound Design, to kids ages 7-18, showing them the fun of music, as well as the discipline and focus needed for success. Taught concepts that will enable students to get accepted to Berklee College of Music, or another music school, and to be able to play music in a variety of professional settings.
Taught drums at a summer camp at this great music school located in Littleton, MA where I took piano and drum lessons for many years. Worked with students ages 5-18. Taught orchestra percussion as well as contemporary drumkit techniques/concepts.
