I've been teaching private lessons since 2014 and I'm currently available to teach in your home. I've been a working musician for fifteen years. Picking up the guitar in high school, I quickly realized my life's goal of bringing music into people's lives. I've worked my way through various bands, learning (the hard way) that a stylistic diversity is not only the key to success in the music business, but also a path to cultural awareness. Eventually, when studying bass guitar with renown bassist James Kirk, I developed a passion for the rhythmic aspect of music and the bedrock of groove that the bass provides.
I first discovered teaching when by volunteering with 826CHI, a Chicago-based organization providing after-school tutoring to under-privileged children. Finding that I have a natural aptitude for clarifying academic subjects, I went on to work for several test-prep tutoring services. I've also taught guitar and bass at a large music store. Please check out my website for more information and playing samples:
At Sylvan, I tutored students in grades 3-6, working within Sylvan's curriculum in subjects like Reading and English.
At Guitar Center, I taught guitar and bass lessons to variety of students, from grade school children who had never picked up the instrument before to middle-aged and older hobbyists.
At Huntington, I helped prepare high-school students for the ACT and SAT standardized tests. I taught all subjects of each test (English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing) and tutored students from grades 5-8 in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Language Arts. Occasionally, older students would seek my help in professional development; for example, preparing for the exam to earn a Realtor's license.
826 CHI is a volunteer organization providing after-school tutoring to children in Chicago. Here, I helped students in all academic subjects. Often, tutors were asked to work with more than one student at a time.
