Joni Clare is a performing vocalist, songwriter, and vocal coach also training to be an Alexander Technique teacher. She graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Music degree in 2015 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her vocal repertoires started in classical, jazz, musical theater, and gospel and later specialized in extended vocal technique, experimental improvisation, composition, songwriting, and vocal pedagogy.
Clare has been performing for eight years ranging from back-up singing, collaborative projects, and song-writing in her band, The City Pines. She released her first album 'Dividing Silence' in 2012 and EP 'Harvest' in 2015 and is currently performing and writing music with for her band in Portland, Oregon.
She is down to earth and has a strong, eclectic sound mixing original soul singing with classical and experimental training. She helps you build conscious control of the singing muscles and full vocal range. Under her guidance, you'll explore all colors and resonation while carrying ideas about singing with your whole self. The goal is to establish a free, confident voice through opening up choice and decision making in singing!
Joni is a great fit for my singing goals. I can't wait until our next lesson!
Joni is a wonderful teacher to work with. Her passion for music and her drive and dedication to helping you achieve your goals show up so clearly in every lesson with her.
It also seems clear to me that she comes at this not from any strict tradition or method but as someone who has learned very well the science behind how the voice and singing work. How the body works as a whole. She then uses that knowledge and her skills to pull forward whatever will work best for any particular goal you have. She will not only show you what to do but she will be sure you understand why you are doing it.
I for one feel lucky to have found her here on Takelessons. I am confident you would feel the same.
Joni shared her gift for vocal instruction with my teen son who has autism. She created a safe place for him to explore his own vocal talent while helping him expand his skills, learn about new kinds of music, and experience the joy of singing.
Joni is an amazing instructor! She was so helpful in showing me how to regulate my breathing to make the most of my voice. Better breathing meant better relaxation, which helped with performance anxiety. She's awesome!
