I started my musical education in a children's choir at age 6.
When I turned 8 years old, I began piano lessons. I started violin
at 9 and trombone at 10. After studying numerous instruments I am now proficient on the piano, electric/acoustic bass, and guitar. Having completed my tour of duty in the U.S. Army, I am currently on the Dean's list as a music/audio production major, and plan to continue my music education until I earn at least a masters in performance and composition. I started my teaching career at Milestones in Music, a local studio, as an independent contractor, and was able to gain valuable experience, and through my membership in the National Association for Music Education(NAfME) I was able to fine tune my curriculum. I am a former student member of the Grammy U Recording Academy, and have had opportunities to work with, and learn from a lot of different musicians. (The Recording Academy is the organization that created the most prestigious
award in music, the Grammy). I am the band leader at my church Montco Bible Fellowship. I have experience as an audio tech in the studio and for a live stage, and have consulted for organizations looking to setup a sound system/studio. I enjoy recording my own music in my home studio, and learning to play new instruments. I hope to pass my love for music to the next generation!
*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very laid back instructor... as you will find out! I understand that not everyone learns at the same rate; however, I am a perfectionist and don't allow students to advance until they have learned a particular skill. I would rather a student take forever to learn a song, and practice it with good technique, than be able to play it right away with poor form and posture! I reinforce the value of working toward goals and celebrate with students when they reach them. I understand that every student has different interests and reasons for wanting to learn an instrument... I try to focus on the areas that are of interest to the student, because a student who is enjoying themself will excel. This does not mean that the subjects and skills that are not of interest will not be taught, because I also believe in being a well-rounded musician. I teach both jazz (theory/improvisation) and classical (composed) music.
*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is currently not optimal for teaching... I hope to change this soon!!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson books and other learning materials, but expect to be reimbursed. I expect the student to have their own instrument/equipment. Piano students are required to have a piano or a keyboard with 88 weighted keys (hammer-action), a piano bench and a pedal. Guitar/bass students must have an acoustic/electric guitar/bass with a strap or footstool, pick, and cable and amplifier if applicable! Digital audio students must have their own computer, Digital Audio workstation (software), digital audio interface, speakers/headphones and midi controller. ALL STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE A NOTEBOOK (college rule or staff)!!
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical and jazz piano! I am more than proficient at most production software including: reason, fl studio, ableton live... and other editing software such as sony sound forge, audacity, etc...
I have been teaching private instrumental lessons full time since 2011. i have experience with kids as young as 4 yrs old to senior citizens!! I also have experience teaching autistic children as young as 6!!

On time, good with my son.
Jonathan was great! He captured my son's attention and taught him the critically important basics.
We've been really happy with Jonathan so far. He's been teaching my son for a few months and I love that he teaches both classical and jazz/improv in tandem. I was taught classically only and I see so much value in this side by side approach- best of both worlds. He's patient but he also has high standards. Glad we found him!+ Read More
His teaching techniques were very helpful especially when it comes to learning about the guitar. He was also very patient in teaching basic information as well as providing useful tips and ideas.
Jonathan is a great teacher, and very patient with me. I decided to take lessons as a hobby for retirement and wanted to learn a little about jazz and blues. Jonathan taught me the basics and then picked a few songs and doesn't leave the song until you feel pretty comfortable playing the melody, accompaniment and even some soloing. I looks forward to all of my lessons+ Read More
Patient and helpful teacher. Always friendly and explains things well so that it is very easy to understand. I've improved immensely in the past ~2 years, thanks to him. Great for anyone looking to begin in jazz piano and theory!
Awesome guy! Very knowledgeable
Jonathan is very patient- I'm an old timer- self taught with tons of bad habits and a real lack of any music theory. Jonathan is patient and a lot of fun as a teacher. I really look forward to our lessons.
My son was very happy with Jonathan's approach and is excited to learn the proper way to play bass.
My daughter was hesitant starting with a new teacher since we just moved to the area. Jonathan was great and she was very happy with the lesson
Jonathan was prompt and my daughter described him as very knowledgeable. I like that he is starting her back into piano with theory.
Thoughtful and caring and, knowledgeable!
My son doesn't give many details; he is happy with Jonathan and said he deserves five stars.
Jonathan was an excellent instructor. Always punctual and professional. Showed a real interest with my son's lessons. Kelly Sheridan
My 5 year old son was very happy and couldn't wait to get his next lesson
My 3 sons (ages 12,11, & 9)really enjoyed their first lesson with Jonathan and can't wait for more instruction. Thank You!
I had told Jonathan prior to his first visit that I wanted my son to actually take his time and learn, not goof around. I also wanted music theory to be a majority of his lesson, rather than my son continuing to learn by ear. Jonathan definitely took the course I wanted him to take.+ Read More

Jonathan has been a wonderful teacher to our granddaughter Madison. She is very shy, and he has been very considerate and understanding towards her. His teaching technique has been superb, and she has learned so much in a short amount of time. He is teaching her to really understand the language of music which will benefit her with any future endeavors she may have with music. We would recommend Jonathan to anyone wanting to learn an instrument especially children because of his empathy towards them.+ Read More
Jon is a very good teacher. He showed patience and persistence with my son, who was not the most motivated student I'm sure. Jon taught chord structure and basic theory and was verify good at keeping my son focused. In the year he gave instruction, my son progressed consistently. He enjoyed Jon's teaching techniques. I would recommend Jon without hesitation based on our positive experience with him.+ Read More
Thanx for a great 1st lesson
I'm a self taught player but I couldn't figure out how to play solos, and I never understood jazz concepts to be able to play it. After my first lesson, Johnathon gave me many fundamental points to begin to understand performing a solo. In order to move forward, I need to move backwards and master fundamental techniques. Johnathon was focused, detailed, and clearly communicated the points he was explaining to me. He laid out a detailed plan of what to practice, and I was very happy with my first lesson!+ Read More
Jonathan is knowledgeable, patient, and I would recommend him as a teacher for anybody of any age.
Jonathan was very patient and a wonderful teacher for my 5 year old daughter.
Jonathan is very patient and a wonderful teacher for young children.
Very Good Teacher
I took bass lessons with Jon last year, and it was truly a phenomenal experience! Jon worked with me on my level and really broke down music theory in a clear manner. He also was able to pinpoint the areas I needed the most work in, and then developed drills for me to use at home between lessons. His teaching style helped me develop from a below average bass player to a proficient level…in less than 6 months! I highly recommend Jon no matter your experience level.
Great teacher! Totally would recommend!
Best teacher ever
He is nice and patient with me and was never angry with me... great at teaching!!
If you get something wrong he will help you fix it. You work on a song until it is great. you get to make something up using what you're learning. He is positive and explains things clearly.
After years of contemplation about playing a musical instrument, I started piano lessons in January 2013. I couldn't have made a better decision. Lessons with Jon have been a wonderful experience. He has the ability to teach music theory as well as the technical aspects of piano, while at the same time encouraging me to explore my own creativeness. He is extremely patient but always finds a way to challenge me. No matter how difficult I may find a particular lesson, I never get frustrated. He is an excellent motivator! My family is amazed at my progression over 6 months. I would highly recomend Jon for a piano teacher!
